More cute overload
Playing with her little feets... dawwwww!
Just killing time while I wait for this migraine to go away. So I figured I'd upload some video I took a couple days ago.

Re: More cute overload
THANKS ALOT XEIKE... I watched the video with my 14 year old daughter, here is the coversation as much as I can remember it...
"dad, we need to get one!!"
Ummm... no we don't.
"yeah, we can get one cause they are so cute!"
yes, they are cute, but so are baby lions...no we aren't getting one.
"but we could name it Bandit..."
First of all, no, we aren't getting one and secondly, every one thinks of that name with raccoons, it would need to be more original.
"so we can get one?"
No, haven't you been listening????
"but you said if we came up with a more original name we could get one!!!"
No I didn't! we aren't getting one!
(everything started getting a little more intense in the voice inflection at this point)
"Why not?"
Because they are destructive when they are young, we aren't home enough to care for it, our house is too small, we would need a permit, there are alot of reasons, We aren't getting one!
"YOU NEVER LET ME HAVE ANYTHING!! THIS JUST SUCKS!!! WHY DO YOU RUIN MY LIFE!!!!!"
and then the exit out of the room to her bedroom....
I am so glad this only happens once a month.

Re: More cute overload
lol, if she wants a reason why not to have a raccoon - they only bond with one person. They can, and WILL bite everyone else with very little provocation. This means she couldn't have any friends over. She can't take it for a walk. And if it ever bit anyone, it would be euthanized, and it's head would be sent to a lab for rabies research. Period. There are no exceptions to this.
They will eat all of her dolls, stuffies, everything. Her favorite shoes, her hair ties, EVERYTHING. You just wait... as Gneudals gets older, I will make video of all the nasty, horrible things she does.
Has she ever smelled raccoon poop?
Even at this age, the smell these little boogers can produce is INSANE. And it smells like NOTHING else I have ever smelled before. I'd rather wrap a dirty diaper around my head.
And - they're not destructive when they're young. When they're babies, they're cute and harmless. Once they're weaned, you have 20+ YEARS of destruction to look forward to. ^.~ They don't ease up, and they grow to be about 50 pounds. Yeah. Not a kid's pet.

Re: More cute overload
I was wondering how the little guy was doing! He's so cute (for now!).
Geez Scott, don't you know, every girl should have a Raccoon? (A stuffed one?)

That is adorable...why are all the cutest critters horrible pets, lol? Not fair.
And about the rabies thing...I guess there isn't a racoon safe version of the vaccine?

Actually, yes there is. And it's the exact same one a dog would get.
But because it's a wild animal, it doesn't matter if it's had the vaccine or not. It still has to be tested to ensure that the human it bit is going to be ok.
It's stupid and it sucks, but I understand the logic. "Just in case" matters more human to human, than human to animal.

Re: More cute overload
It sucks that they have to be killed for the test, though...I thought that for dogs, if they bite someone, they can put them in quarantine for however long (90 days, or something to that effect) to see if they show any signs...do they just not bother with coons, or am I wrong about the quarantine thing?
Either way they ought to find a way of testing that doesn't result in the animals death.

You ever try to hold a cat down to get a mask on it....It isn't pretty.

For dogs and cats, there is a way of testing that does not involve the animals' death.
Not so for "wild animals" regardless if they're a pet or not.

Re: More cute overload
lol, how many times I've said that could ride on the heads of half the fish in the sea.
The world would be such a better place if only I could be god for a week. For even a day.
But, wish in one hand.....
This is how things are now, so if anyone's going to be around the coon - they MUST be able to be trusted to tell the nurse and doctors that he just got really on the wrong side of a cat.
