She has gone from this skinny little rodent:
To this pear shaped object:
Since I got her early this spring. March I believe it was.

She followed me home from an exotic animal show in San Antonio. She was a little skittish at first, but she gets daily handling and cheek rubs which keeps her very friendly. She comes running to me when I call her, and will make a loud squeak whenever I go 'WOOHOO!' (or sneeze, or open a coke, or cough...)

Prairie dogs are a lot like iguanas in that they make good pets for a few selective people. They need constant social interaction - they are not a cage rodent like a hamster. In the winter they go through what is known as 'rut' and become extremely antisocial. Some of them go almost psychotic... and then in the spring they suddenly become friendly again. Many people can't deal with that. They have a few other issues, like dietary requirements. They can't have rodent blocks, commercial rodent foods, or alfalfa. *shrug*
Again... sure, they -can- be good pets. For some people.

** cough arlington not san antonio cough cough **
I don't have pics of JoJo, but we got him at the same show Rav got his at. They are AWESOME petz IF you are the right type person. They are definitely social, and more akin to a child than typical rodent. They are very cuddley. But they require a lot of interaction time. Lotz and lotz. And they are about as bad as ferrets when it comes to getting into things and finding everything they shouldn't that you thought they couldn't get to in the first place. They are wonderful though. Ours sleeps in the bed with us sometimes, and also does "wahoo"s when we cough, open a screechy door, sneeze, or choke half to death.

That thing is adorable, but it has WAY too much fur for me to consider it a good pet. Then again, I generally prefer my pets to be Hair Free.

Like your women Morti?
Cotton and most fabrics are a pretty big no-no for all rodents. They will chew it up to nest with it, and inevitably swallow some of it. And in the end it usually means an intestinal blockage. Not a pleasant prospect.
How's yours doing Thade? Any rutting problems yet?
