My sister got trampled by a horse
A few days ago, my sister got trampled by a horse. She is still in the hospital right now. She is a horseback rider and 17 years old, and has been riding horses all her life. She got bucked off the horse and the horse reared up and landed on her chest.
My phone is broken so my family has not been able to get ahold of me so I found out just now. They said I can't visit yet. There's internal damage and she has not woken up aside from 5 minutes at 3AM where she went into panic thinking she could not breath and lost consciousness again. Her liver is bleeding was well as a few other internal brusing and damage I'm not 100% sure the extent of her injuries.
She will be going into surgery soon. This really sucks as I'm very close with her, she is deaf too (my brothers are not) so I have always tried to be there for her and I'm sad this happened. She has gotten her shoulder broken, and leg broken (two separate events) while horseback riding.

Re: My sister got trampled by a horse
I'm so sorry Stalk. I hope she recovers soon. I know what you mean BW. My wife loves horses and thinks my motorcycle is dangerous. It always does exactly what I tell it to do. You never know with a horse, and she's made a lot more trips to the ER than I have.

Re: My sister got trampled by a horse
wow, really sorry, i had a brother go through a lot after a wreck that almost killed him about 2 years ago and that's a VERY taxing situation. brothers and sisters have always meant more to me than anyone but my kids. he was in ICU for months, coma and all that, and today, he's got one blind eye and is a jerk about 90% of the time lol but it totally fine. lives a normal life (for a jerk).
just don't let things like "what could have been done differently" and "what could have happened that was worse" bother you. that's a waste of energy to even ponder

Re: My sister got trampled by a horse
i'm so sorry!!
i'm 17 and horses are my life - been riding pratically all my life. My aunt and a close friend have both had a horse rear and flip on them ... breaking their pelvis .... that are huge, beautiful majestic animals
and many ppl say i'm insane to ride the crazy ones, luckly i've only had a broken arm
i hope your sister gets better, she's in my thoughts

Re: My sister got trampled by a horse
Thanks for the well wishes guys, I'll make sure she hears it. It's really a shame as she has always loved horses, but it is a very expensive hobby. Our family wants her to stop horseback riding and I don't think she will be happy to hear about it.
I think she should do what she wants, there's no easy answer in cases such as this. It's started a ripple effect at the barn she goes to, lots of people want to quit and sell their horses. It's sad. But it's also sad when someone gets hurt, especially for the family. Everyone has good intentions, wanting to protect their children, but at what cost? If you asked her if it is worth the risk, even today, she will say yes. Same goes for me with backpacking, I could die. But it's worth the risk.
At this point I don't really care about all that though I just am hoping there's no permanent damage. They won't let anyone visit her still so I'm anxious and feel guilty being home on vacation while she's in the hospital.

You are right stalk, there is risk in everything you do as long as you are doing something. And I am sure that doing something you love is worth it to the people who are taking part. Please know that I am praying and thinking about your sister. Keep us updated!!!

Re: My sister got trampled by a horse
I hope your sister will be ok *hugs* All of you will be in my thoughts.
My mom was thrown from a horse when she was younger, caused her back problems for the rest of her life. Thankfully, that was the worst of it. She loves horses, but she won't ever get on one again.

I'm so sorry your sister is hurt I'll be praying for her to get better and to be strong!
She sounds like a determined girl. I'm sure she'll be fine. Maybe she needs to try backpacking with you instead?
Hang tough...you'll get to see her soon!
