Ferret cage question
hi all!
i have a cage question and i am hoping to find some help
i have 2 ferrets; cooper and sadie. cooper is 2 years old and sadie is 7 mths.
currently they are each in their own cages. cooper lives in a 2 story cage that has plenty of room for him. sadie is living in cooper's old cage which is a single story cage that is appx 3 ft long and 2 ft deep. she is quickly outgrowing her cage. there isn't enough room for both of them in cooper's cage (and i am worried about territorial issues) and i don't have the space for another large cage.
i was wondering if it is okay to buy a brand new large cage to put them both in ( i am looking at a four story cage that will have plenty of play and living space for them both) ????????
my ferrets play very well together when they are out. i am in desperate need for a solution because unfortunately on the days that i work my ferrets are in their cages for appx 19 hrs at a time (i am in bed by 12 and i work 7a-7p) and i want them to have plenty of space to play and to play together so they won't be bored.
any and all suggestions would be very helpful
thanks so much!!!

Re: Ferret cage question
I think as long as they have plenty of space and they're both healthy, it should be fine to house them together. Most of the people that I know that keep ferrets usually keep two or three of them together in the same cage, and they seem totally happy about it. (The ferrets, that is!)

Re: Ferret cage question
Ferrets are actually extremely social with each other. They thrive with cage company so much so that there is a myth that you should get three ferrets because if one dies the other will die of lonelyness.....lol...not true but they do seem to do better with companionship in the cage
As far as space goes they will mostly sleep in the cage. Just 3 or 4 hours a day is plenty because even if a ferret is out for longer than that they usually find a place to go to sleep after they have "burned themselves out". No real need for a huge cage. The split level is better because occasionally one will get on the others nerves and my drive it to the other level to sleep

Re: Ferret cage question
I dont see any problem putting them in a cage together. Just supervise them for a while, if anything goes wrong then I suppose you have to seperate them. I just recently bought a young ferret and currently own an older ferret. It took a while for them to adjust but they live in the same cage together with no problems. It's better for them to be together rather than be alone I suppose too

Re: Ferret cage question
Everyone above said what I intended on saying LOL
They should be fine together, just make sure they are both healthy before putting them together and I would put them together the first few times when you know you will be there to keep an eye on them. Then if they are doing well and seem to be getting along well, then let them live together
I did notice they are male and female so be careful on that aspect of it....you may not be ready for babies but she may not be physically ready for babies.
Good luck to you and I hope they enjoy each others company!

They may never be ready...most pet shop ferrets come spayed or neutered as a matter of common practice.

I just threw that in there because mine were not "fixed" and I couldn't house them together until I had it done. Then I took in 2 more that were not fixed either...so I was just unsure if these 2 were,is all
