New Baby! Baxter the chinchilla.
Right on time, Lanolin delivered her first baby yesterday, a perfect little beige, complete dead ringer for his daddy Dusty. 
He's the BIGGEST baby chin we've had delivered here to date! 63 grams, and perfectly feisty and precious!!
Here he is with his mommy, Lanolin, in the maternity cage:

That's usually about right, 150 - 200 or so for a beige. I offer my babies for about 100 for fancies and 50 for normals, just to recoup the vet visit I take them on. I figure every person who chooses to get a baby from me is one less person who'll buy one from Petco or Petsmart. Of course I only let them breed once a year, or once every other year, and they typically have only one or two babies, so I still haven't run out of friends and acquaintances on the waiting list! I think when I do, the chins will probably take a noticeable hit to their sex lives, if they don't have a home already planned, I don't breed 'em!

I've been looking into getting a chinchilla but I've been trying to find a place besides Petsmart and Petco. They are hard to find around here. I did find one lady who breeds Dwarf chinchillas. She owns a pet store but I have never heard of them before so I don't know if I was interested or not. They are so cute. Right now I don't have the time for one though... Adorable little animals.

Awww I've always wanted a dwarf chin! As I understand it, there's no problems associated with the dwarfism, they're still happy, healthy, and lead just as long of a life as the regular size ones.
They definitely take a lot of time, though! That's the main drawback of a social little critter.
