sorry bout the many posts..but this link here seems the best to me....they are a rescue, that has several
Caracal cats, and if you get in touch with them, they can probably tell you all about keeping a Caracal as a pet....I think they used to breed them.....and now only rescue...
i think its worth a shot to try to get in touch with them about all the Caracal cat ownership aspects...

discovery or animal planet. But very nice looking nontheless.

Great job Lucy. My emails weren't answered so i will try calling tomorrow. Although you put in a mean looking first pic, i am still looking forward to the challenge. I guess it will really just take a place when i get some verbal feedback from these shelters. Thanks again.

Aw to heck with it, this is the URL that I sent you in your PM... Kritter-Korner.org
No offense to anyone here, but most of the people here are more reptilian-inclined. Not a whole lot of us know much on exotic mammals, including myself. Kritter-Korner is more of a mammal type site, they cover a whole lot of exotic mammals, including exotic cats. I put up a thread for you over there, but I'm sure somebody there has experience with caracals or knows someone who does. Maybe you'd have better luck over there getting more insight. Or maybe somebody can set you straight?

I have spoke to a few rescue shelters and breeders today and am starting to get put off by the breed. It seems that the cat is reverted back to its wild state as soon as it gets to the age of 2 years. I was going to keep it indoors practically all the time but due to preying/spraying fluctuations i feel i am in too deep. Chances are that 90% of all caracals are disasterous and unmanageable (according to a shelter in FL). I feel it's too great a risk.
Thanks to all who have contributed.

I don't know if anyone had posted that URL before... but as with any animal, it takes lots of research. I personally have been interested in getting one for awhile (they're my favourite "non-domestic" feline aside from lions), but I'm waiting until I move to have more room for one. I want a happy shabootums!
