Ok, time for some pics of something cute and cuddly
I have posted quite enough snake pics. Now it is time for something different. This is Jake my hairless rat. He is part of a new feeder breeding program that I am starting to replace the seed and fruit eating mice that I was breeding for my emeralds. He is already on a seed and fruit diet and is doing quite well.
The only reason that I have him is because I am too soft hearted and couldn't whack the little bugger. He came from a friend of mine that breeds rats and he was one of the cull males that he gave me. Well the other 9 got fed but I just couldn't whack him because he ran up my arm and sat on my shoulder and talked to me for 5 minutes.
So now we are waiting for a couple mates for him which are still nursing with their mother.
Even my wife likes him. He is just too cute to kill, but I will surely whack his offspring.
THis way I am doing away with the hair that needs to be digested by the emeralds and also not having to raise them up to full adulthood before they are big enough for feeders. That in itself will save much time and money on food. Oh yea, neither he or any of his brothers or sisters bite the heck out of me like the mice do either.
Isn't he cute>

LOL, I'm laughing like crazy now. I'd probably have done the same thing. I hate to say but that is UGLY. Don't tell him I said that. Definetely a face only a human parent could love. Don't people say too ugly to not be cute?

You know as long as you love him that is all that matters. Poor boy has no idea he is hairless. I have nothing against bald rats. Just think, this rats baldness saved his life.

Hey, don't be dissing my boy! LOL! I know he has an unconventional look, but who knows it may catch on.
He makes up for his lack of looks with an abundance of personality though.

NOT A JOKE
Hey Dave, let me know how breeding those goes. I have heard that the female hairless are HORRIBLE mothers, and generally turn to canabalism. I have a HUGE hairless female that I cannot kill off because Sam is in love with her, and I cannot breed her because I do not want her to eat her babies. If she can be bred and take care of the babies well, she can earn her keep and breed. (that last sentence was a joke)

All of the hairless rats that Pete has have been outcrossed with regular haired rats. I had planned on getting one haired and one hairless female so that if the hairless female abandons her babies or tries to eat them I can move the haired mother and babies to another tank. We will see how good that works as time goes on I guess.
All the hairless can go to the emeralds and any haired babies can go to the multitudes of boas that have seemed to accumulate this past fall and winter.

Little garbage disposals.
I will give you a call about noon if you are around. Work is pretty busy this morning.
