African giant pouched rats are trained for mine detection
APOPO is a Belgian research organization that was initiated in response to the global landmine problem. APOPO developed a new mine detection technology, whereby rats are used to sniff out and indicate the position of the explosive targets. APOPO is currently based at the Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania, where African giant pouched rats are trained for mine detection. The first deployment of this technology Mozambique is in full preparation

I LOVE Gambian Pouched Rats.
Unfortunately, the CDC has kind of banned them because of monkey pox. I know people still keep them as pets, but it's technically illegal... or was a year or so ago, and probably still is.

I searched for one of those for two years!!! I could never find a breeder in the US, I have a rat that is really fat, but that doesnt count, I love rats, they are so smart, Mine has a stuffed puppy that he wont sleep without, I'll tell him to go get his puppy and he'll run and get it before he gets in his cage, But it would be so awesome to have a huge one like that.
