Re: Rats Aren't Always For Snakes
I'm assuming you do regular fecal exams on the dogs (at least every 3-4 months?), along with worming?
I've discovered that even frozen rats have the possibility of harboring roundworms!
Cute pup though.

I've seen some silly people at the clinic try this diet without fully researching it... Disasterous!
Looks like you are doing it the right way.

Re: Rats Aren't Always For Snakes
Xeikeness used to recommend it and call it the "barf diet". Raw meat for your dogs, that is....not necessarily whole dead rats.
Xeike, where are you???

Re: Rats Aren't Always For Snakes
Yep, Bones And Raw Food or Biologically Appropriate Raw Food. Generally people do a "whole prey" diet with is composed of various body parts from various animals and whole prey like chickens, rabbits, quail, rats, fetal pigs, deer carcasses, goat carcasses. Whatever's available to you. Some people also add vegetables. I generally don't though. The dogs can't digest them unless they're cooked and pureed. If they aren't they generally come out the same way they went in.

My dogs are crazy about mango and the stem of Pak Choy, as a treat sometimes.

My dog will eat any vegetable I happen to be chopping up in the kitchen, so I always give him the ends

Re: Rats Aren't Always For Snakes
I might actually add a small amount of veggies to my dogs' diet. Not sure yet.
Also, turns out Fiona digested the rat fine. My little trooper

Re: Rats Aren't Always For Snakes
ewwwwwwwwwww! lololol... I realized that my rabbit breeder that I get my snake rabbits from also does frozen dog meat rabbits... whole and parts depending on what size dog you want it for... She sells it for a LOT more then what I buy my whole rabbits for, but i'm sure I could get them for a good deal from her

Re: Rats Aren't Always For Snakes
Great pics!!
I thought about doing rabbits for my girls too. I'm going to incorporate some red meat next week. They just tried pigs tails and LOVE them.
raw diet has done them well, their teeth are PERFECT!

Re: Rats Aren't Always For Snakes
My Mom made a deal with our grocery store's butcher. When they get chickens in, they call us and give us heaps of chicken parts for cheap. Awesomeness
