Re: Last chance.....
Look at their experience for one. Look on line to see what people say about them? The (good) dog training community is pretty close knit and if someone isn't worth their weight in ____ they are quick to be tagged as it. I bet by the end of the day I could get a t least a few names of some quality trainers near(ish) to Killeen, Texas for her. If you don't just give up and you try to find a good trainer.... you can.

Re: Last chance.....
This is a bummer, that's for sure. I'm glad to hear that just the couch has suffered. With that, I'm kinda concerned about the dog at this point. Don't get me wrong. You're safety is important but stuff like, "I'm going to kill him" or "I'm going to knock his teeth out" is just asking for a bashing especially on a forum with animal interest at it's best. Whether you are just venting or speaking the truth.
.
Everyone wants what best for the dog (and you). Threatening to kick or kill (hypothetically or not) is bad mojo.
.
I wish you the best.

This isn't a snake we are talking about. This is an animal with fairly decent mental capacity. Completely different animal with zero in common and shouldn't be compared to.
You are talking like this dog is some crazed animal which one bite does not make it. A dog that is looking to do damage does not do a shallow bite (front canines only) that is a fear bite. If a dog is looking to do damage and really throw down with you, they bite deep until the back of their mouth hits, then clamp down so they don't come off easily. They with also counter in which this dog did not do by her explanation of the situation.
If it was a dog that was constantly growling when some one tried to touch it or come near it and never listened and was always baring teeth with its hackles up then yes I would say she's not equipped or experienced to work on a dog with those types of issues.
She also said that the dog for most of the time is a great dog and very playful and has obedience. All this dog needs is a tiny bite of help. This isn't some huge project dog which many are making it out to be.

Re: Last chance.....
I hired a trainer once, who talked a pretty good game, but abused the dog and made no progress with us or the dog. The dog doesn't need usually need training; it's the owner. I think the odds are at least 50/50 that Sakara will connect with the wrong "trainer". If that happens, she and the dog are at further risk. A few key changes in her attitude and behavior towards him, would probably fix everything, but she needs THE RIGHT kind of help right now. I don't think it's that easy to find. In the meantime, this is a dangerous situation.

Did you read her other thread on the subject? I'm not blaming the dog here. I see him as a victim of circumstance. I wasn't the one who started the snake comparison either.

Re: Last chance.....
So one bad experience means the majority of trainers are garbage? I got bit by a corn snake once... I should advise everyone that the majority are mean snakes that don't make good pets?

Who are we to designate this type of help? Most of us are here because of snakes. I've also seen a lot of very dangerous advice given by some members here regarding how to handle the situation. I will agree with you that the trust between these two might be broken by now. However, dogs are very resilient and forgiving creatures.
There are plenty of bad trainers out there, and there are those that think they can fix anything, no matter what the liability. Both are very dangerous. What she needs to do is stop asking for advice on forums and get the help of someone in a professional setting. One that has a good track record and a record for success.

ok... well I'm sure you have heard people complain about their kids after they did something stupid or bad, or a brother or sister, spouse, etc. say "I'm gonna kill that (choice of word good or bad)" But are they going to literally kill them? no.

Okay....but hearing something in person and reading a text on a reptile forum are two different ways to interpret something. How do we know you're kidding? Can't judge a tone of voice on a reptile forum.

I love dogs, and I've kept enough of them over the years to know absolutely, that they are usually what you make of them. I especially like "working dogs" but they are not for everyone.
