Remote Collar Dog Training for Pet Owners DVD
Buy and watch this a few times before ever putting an e-collar on the dog. As good as e-collars are, improper usage can cause more problems than good. I highly recommend this DVD.

Perhaps I wasn't being clear. By "giving attention" I mean exercise. Not just playing and cuddling. A dog of that breed and age needs to be worn out multiple times daily. If that isn't happening, he'll find another way to exert his energy, ie- destroying things. I know Ashley absolutely loves Koda. With everything he's done, the fact that she's still trying speaks volumes to that.
Maybe an indoor crate just isn't right for him. Have you thought about getting an outdoor pen for your backyard? Something he can run around in and get a bit of exercise. That may help.

Re: Last chance.....
Mental stimulation is the best way to tire out a dog... more so than physical. Teach him tricks and various obedience. Doing activities that require his mind and his muscles to work will not only drain some of that energy but also make him happier (aka you happier).

Re: Last chance.....
well we have a 6foot fence and he LOVES to run and play outside which he does a LOT when it's not freezing out, lol... He will literally play for hours outside with or without us... And then when he's tired he will just lay down and bask, lol... There is also a school up the road that has a fenced in tennis court and kid play area that we can throw a ball around in and stuff...
I'm trying, lol... I don't like to give up, and I'll buy collars, an outdoor dog house, balls, toys, whatever I have to to try to wear him out or cut his bad habbits... lol... but yea... this is annoying

Re: Last chance.....
From what she has said on her threads on here, this isn't a case of an aggressive dog. This is a case of a dog that isn't used to rules and structure. Sure there has been/will be bumps along the way. But as long as she is willing to put in the time and effort to do the right kind of training with the right trainer.... there is no reason she needs to get rid of this dog. As reptile keepers aren't we used to enough of this shouldn't have crap? We are all about up hill work.

I agree 110%
Also, if you have a dog that put it's mouth on people for whatever reason, and rehomed it, wouldn't you feel bad if the new owner or someone else got bit? What if they took legal action against you for it.
Sadly, there is a shortage of people that will willingly take large "working" breeds and actually know how to deal with them. Most of those people have met several dogs in this situation or have worked with them.
Rehoming is a nice thought, but with a dog that is showing some defensive behaviors like Koda is, rehoming is the "easy" way out.

Re: Last chance.....
i know he's got a lot of energy and is going through a "stage" right now, and I don't wanna give up on him... But if he snaps or bites at me, I dunno how well I'm going to be able not to knock his teeth out -_-
I'm workin on him...and I will keep trying... Maybe I will try to leave him outside for like 3 hours and see what he does... Then maybe I could let him be crated outside while I'm at work with water and if he breaks out, it might not hurt anything

Re: Last chance.....
If someone without the appropriate knowledge/skill level posted here saying their hot or giant snake was becoming a danger, we would not likely suggest that they continue working with the animal. It may be ok with a small nonvenomous snake, but not with something that poses a serious threat to life or limb. Suggestions that rehoming is "the easy way out" are dangerous at this point.
This dog would probably be great in the right environment. A shelter or breed rescue would probably have the ability to select a suitable new owner.

Re: Last chance.....
lol we have a decent sized yard and I'd rather buy a dog house then build one hahaha. it would be much better quality haha. but I guess if I
spent. hundred bucks on a house at lowes with a teather point I could get him a looooong metal leash for outside so he can't get to the fence lol

You're still making excuses for him. The damage is done at this point. He doesn't trust or respect you, and you can't trust him.

Thats not true at all. All she needs is some help from a professional trainer. I have yet to meet a dog that with the right help couldn't be a trusted house dog. The only way it's a lost cause is if she gives up and doesn't get any help.

Some professional trainers are useless. Trust me, I know. If she decides to get one immediately...how will she know a good one from a bad one?
