18 1/2 week puppy
Just a few pix of me hanging out with Boomer. A pit I rescued from being the "bait dog" as he was the litter runt. Look at him now. Well over 35 lbs and not even 5 months old
Just hanging out
Is a pitt's mouth ALWAYS open?????
Mouth full of ear....lol
Pix taken with my wife's camera (not very high quality but you get the idea).

Re: 18 1/2 week puppy
Well, he can be a handfull at times but he tries that is all I ask from a pet [mammal]. I like is coat. Not many brendles that I see have a base color that light so that the stripes really show thru. I would like to see his head fill out a bit more as he gets older. It is a bit narrow, boxerish at the moment. The thing is, I know this guy wasn't bred for looks as much as supposed "abilities". The new "look" that breeders are creating is almost english bulldogish, keeping them short to the ground, huge neck and head, broad shoulders and narrow hips. This guy looks more "old school". I know that he LOVES people though, and so far I haven't seen animal agression when seeing strange dogs while walking. He plays too much with the cat (who has no problem scratching the crap out of him....lol). Definitely a cool dog

Nothing wrong with an Old Skool Bully! They are the best!
(Personally I don't like those fat blue mutants they breed for now. They aren't pit bulls... to me)
Beautiful dog. Brindles are my favorite. I'm waiting to have a red or blue brindle some day.

Re: 18 1/2 week puppy
No doubt the old school dogs were much quicker and more athletic (they had to be). I do like a big head on a pit though. His is big in the forehead department but a bit narrow in the jaws. As he gets his full adult size that may widen out along with everything else.

He's gorgeous! Congrats on the rescue. Pitties are the best. All mine ever wants to do is love and yours looks the same.

Re: 18 1/2 week puppy
He looks friendly as can be.
I have a REALLY nice brindle pit/mix. The stripes on him are GREAT. he looks a lot like yours but his white patch on his chest runs all the way up his face.
They are AWESOME dogs. Its really cool that u rescued him too. Dog fighters have really trashed the Pits reputation.

Re: 18 1/2 week puppy
i rather a short PIT 45lb-under with nice definition , than a taller similar looking animal like a american bulldog thats IMO but yours looks nice and i also would rather a agile pit with alot of game rather than a bully breed u know stocky big head.MY 42lb pit killed a deer that came in the yard last summer great looking dog

Re: 18 1/2 week puppy
The abbreviations in that dog's title mean:
Int'l CH: International Champion (conformation/Show)
UWPS: United Weight Puller Supreme (I think this is the highest Weight Pull title earned from the UKC)
UWPCHX: UKC weight pull excellent
OFA-H/P/Ca: Orthopedic foundation for animals health testing. This dog has passed hips, patella, and cardiac tests
TT: Dog passed a temperament test by the American Temperament Test Society for dogs
The dog is Brody, of Ro-Ki reds.
American Pit Bull Terrier Network
There's a link about what traditional APBTs should look, move, and act like. A far cry from the "image" those fat blue hippos portray. Don't be fooled!
Dank's dog looks more like the "real deal".

Re: 18 1/2 week puppy
My father just showed me this book that he bought when he had his last dog.....It is called "The World of the American Pit Bull Terrier" by Richard Stratton. It was published in 1983. I scanned this page because there were several "old school" examples of the APBT that looked almost identical to mine. Take a look at the guy on the bottom. Color is a bit off because it is a scan of an old book but you get the idea.
Over the past 20-25 years they have definitely selectively bred these dogs to have a different look than they did in the past.

Rich Stratton was a "dogman" aka a dog fighter. Even though those dogs were bred to fight, offspring off their line still continue to excel at modern dog sports, including weightpull, agility, obedience, and even herding!
Here was my girl. She was a rescue and had to be put to sleep because she had some serious fear-aggression issues from abuse (and living with a homeless dude tied to a shopping cart) that we just couldn't work out, and she was going to become a serious liability. She was my "heart" dog. She was an old-skool, type and weighed 35 pounds.
I will never have another breed but a true APBT, not ever.
