Re: Dog parks?

i got more pics in a private message!nah nah! they are the cutest pics ever! devin is gonna be so happy. thanks xeike, i know you will make my daughters day.

i know what you are saying about fearing for your pets life, the time the police came over to take chance away...i am sure they would have had to shoot me or take me away hand cuffed first. that was by far one of the worst days of my life. i am lucky the cop had a soul and seen how much chance was loved by me and all the neighbors.

Re: Dog parks?

i guess bella will protect me too. there was just some noise outside and she barked and growled and came and stood right in front of my legs. i guess she dont realize she is a puppy with only one adult tooth (right in front) and a baby tooth every so often. when devin showed me her front teeth missing and just one adult tooth right in front i fell over laughing.

thats wrong.. well no its right and wrong. pits where bred to fight but they where also bred to protect and hunt and when they bite not let go (lockjaw). but im a serious believer in the owner decides how the dog is, the lamest example i can think of off the top of my head is ceasar milians FAMILY dog daddy. that is 1 of the best and biggest pits iv ever seen and he lets his daughter walk it and everything.

so i am sorry i blame the trainer/owner LONG before i blame the dog

Re: Dog parks?

I looked at some of the other threads where this breed was discussed, and most were skewed with misinformation on them... even from the supporters.

Pit bulls are bred for their prey drive and tenacity. That being said, they are bred to bite and hold. Other breeds of bulldog blood will do this also. This has nothing to do with "lock jaw"!

Dogs that weren't bred for that specific grip often snap and retract repeatedly when they bite. A bulldog spends all this energy another breed would spend snapping and focuses it on holding something. It's true they are pretty hard to pry off once they've gotten a hold of something. I've seen it happen plenty of times, even to ME. Their jaws do not lock, it just takes a lot to get them to let go. If you take away their air, they let go pretty darned fast.

TRAINING out prey drive is another thing I'll get all huffy about. You cannot train out behavior that has been selectively breed for hundreds of generations. You can get these dogs to tolerate others, but their prey drive and tendency for animal aggression simply cannot be trained away. Training helps, but it will never get rid of the dog's genetic disposition. These dogs that become tolerable are just that. If another dog starts something, it's on!

Caesar Milan may know what he is doing with his own dogs, but he gives the misguided and under-informed public a false sense of security when he shows his gazillion pit bulls all out in the yard together. I'm sure they get into it more than enough, and that isn't shown on television!

Don't believe everything you see on TV! Real life has no editors.

With that being said, I think we should all talk about dog parks, instead of pit bulls or you might see me write out a book on them.

Re: Dog parks?

ok i should not have called it "lockjaw" but thats pretty much what it is when they bite the hold on or "lock" on to something.. which is needed they where breed with the hunt drive and bite for a reason to hold something like a hog.... down....

your right ceasars dogs probly do get into a fair amount of trouble. now that being said i did say it was a lame but adequite example. pittbulls are by no means a family dog, however they can be trained to be a great dog. i never said they wherent a dog who snaps more then others however im sorry u can argue till your face turns blue the same way a rott can be trained from a FIGHTING DOG to a POLICE DOG as can a pittbull.. pits are a stubborn and dominant breed any1 who tells u diffrent is an idiot, however the same way u establish domanace with any other dog u can do the same and make your bark alot more scarey then your bite.

jennyr is a great example from what iv heard mid fight he stops and watched the loser walk away thats good training and loyalty. those are tought and enforced. if u think of the dog as a fighter it does pick up on that and will challenge u every chance u get

i do agree there is a ton of mis-info out there but there is also alot of good info.

iv been around "fighter dogs" my whole life and the only bad ones iv come across where completly the owner (my family members) fault.

Re: Dog parks?

You also made some pretty invalid points as well.

Pit bulls are the original "Family" dog brought back from the UK and Ireland in by immigrants from these countries. At that time in history, most were family and house dogs, or helped maintain a farm during the day. By night, they might have been fought and brought some extra cash into the family. They were actually an all purpose breed before they bought their infamous image in the 1980s as the dog to have among criminals. Many of those all-purpose-dog characteristics are still going strong in those trying to preserve the breed in its original form. However, it's the boom in popularity that didn't do these dogs any favors. Now you've got mutts and curs that are only a shadow of the dogs so loved by America in it's early days.

Rottweilers are a guardian/livestock breed, not bred for fighting.

I'm done, and won't argue any more.

Re: Dog parks?

pittbulls where used for hunting hogs and boars in the old days because of when they grabbed onto the squrmy bugger they didnt let go. they where family dogs because of the traits they had and u just proved my point not to sound like a a-hole. it was the crimnals who turned these dogs bad nd keep them bad its not the dog itself.

rots have been breed and used to fight for awhile now which is why they appear so often in underground scum rings. because of pure size and strength

your right tho im not gonna steal this thread =)

In your other post you said this:
"pittbulls are by no means a family dog, however they can be trained to be a great dog."

Which is why I posted what I did.
You contradicted yourself.

Re: Dog parks?

Rots still have a herding instinct. I had one when I was younger that would herd me to the bus stop in the morning, and herd me back into the house when I got off the bus in the afternoon. In fact, they're still used in Germany to herd and watch livestock

They may be USED to fight now, but they aren't bred for it. It takes VERY selective breeding to bring about ANY specific trait, and to be honest, someone who is using a dog just to fight and potentially lose it probably has no idea what they're doing when it comes to breeding.

Re: Dog parks?

Most of the idiots that fight rottweilers are just that. I can guarantee if they pitted their rott against a fighting breed, they wouldn't win. Sorry to admit that, but it's true. Their fighting history is actually quite modern, probably when the scum got sick of the PBs and wanted to fight other breeds. I've heard of tards fighting huskies and German shepherds.

Rotties are one of my favorite dog breeds and I have to agree, they weren't bred for dog fighting rings...

I mean, pits are bred to specifically listen to their owners voice and tune EVERY other sound out. That's not something you can just train a rottie or any other dog to do, throw them in a fight, and expect it to happen.
