Re: Crap, Crap, Crap

Let's just say it was a VERY bad night for everyone involved, and thank the powers that be that Jennyr and Dodge were with me.

And thanks to the skunks we release, I get to relive that moment over and over and over. At least this time it isn't all THAT bad. :\

Re: Crap, Crap, Crap

well the skunk got skunked, being that shadow had to spend the night outside due to his rank odor, as soon as we got comfortable in bed shadow starts barking like mad, dustin jumps up out of bed goes outside with the spotlight and sure enough its back at the fence ready to attack the dog yet again, i held the light as dustin ran in to grab the air rifle and he shot and killed it.

just goes to show dont mess with mans best friend lol
he tried to skunk the dog twice he was doomed.

Re: Crap, Crap, Crap

Man... am I in a PETA forum or a reptile forum. Do you feed your snakes rats? that pretty much all skunks are is GIANT SMELLY rats. I am sorry that skunks are carriers of rabies and can just as easily physically attack as they can spray. I have had dustin shoot Opossum's and skunks and other things that could possibly HURT or physically damage my dog. And about moving to the country... I LIVE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY, about a block away from a freeway and main city roads. But thanks for the judgment hun! Thanks for the help with getting rid of the skunk smell all!

Re: Crap, Crap, Crap

You do know Possums rarely carry rabies right?
Skunks aren't rodents, either. They're in the same family as ferrets.
Rats die for a purpose, they go to feed our snakes.
Did you feed the skunk to your snake?
Also, PETA sucks.

That is all.

Re: Crap, Crap, Crap

My appologies about opossum but skunks do frequently carry rabies. And the oil they spray can blind animals. Opossums don't carry rabies because their metabolism is to slow. But the one that was killed was hissing and growling at my dog. ANY WAYS nope obviously didn't feed a possibly rabid STINK machine to my snakes. They carry lice and fleas and all kinds of other things. There are LOTS of kids in my neighborhood and having an animal that could harm them is not the best option available.

In 90% of states nationwide, there hasn't been an outbreak of rabies in any species other than dogs and raccoons.

Skunks "can" be carriers of rabies, but haven't been in many, many years.

Also - here in Oregon skunks are a protected species, and for good reason.

Skunks hunt, kill, and eat mice and rats, especially if they decide to live under your house. If you have mice or rats, the skunk will kill and eat them all for you.

As far as moving into nature - I wasn't talking about you, I was talking about people in general, about 60% of the people I talk to every day at my job doing reception for a wildlife control agency are people who moved away to get closer to nature, but don't want nature close to them.

My mom lives in the middle of the city, and has a skunk problem. Her house is actually where Jennyr has done most of his skunk killing.

On a side note, when skunks do physically attack a dog, it's never until it's cornered and has no other escape AFTER it's sprayed and run. If that didn't work, it will bite or scratch at a dog's face if it gets a chance to, but usually the dog kills it pretty fast. I've never seen a dog hurt by a skunk bite.

Raccoons on the other hand...

Regardless; your man killed it so there's not much use prattling on. But I was not attacking you, or passing judgment on you or anything. I'm the last person that you'd find passing any sort of judgment.

Good luck getting your dog de-skunked.
