Rusty is sick
Our Rhodisian Ridgeback is sick. She's not been herself for a few days now and her tummy started swelling up to such an extend that the one friend wanted to know when the puppies are comeing. We had her at the vet and it's her liver that causing water retension. He gave us a handful of meds we need to give her and wants to she her again on monday. But it doesn't sound to good her mother we had to put down due to a liver tumor. The vet said if she's not better by monday he can't do anything for her and even if she is she will be on chronic meds for the rest of her life and even then she'll probable only last another 2 years. She is 10 years old and didn't have the easies life she had cat flu as a pup and being the under dog in the pack she also suffered a bit. My hubby will cry is eyes out if we need to put her down her mom and dad were both ours and he was "midwife" when she come in to the world.
I'f been browsing some local breeders web site just in case to see if there are puppies available.
Very sad I just don't want her to be in pain anymore. She's a great dog will suffer the kids hanging on her ears without loseing the smile from her face.

Re: Rutsy is sick
That's really rough. I hope she improves but if not, at least you know you are doing what you need to do for her. Good for you.

Re: Rutsy is sick
Her name is Rusty (I missoelled it in the header) I'll check the names of the meds for you tonight. They did a sonar and could clearly see that the liver is enlarged and that she has water retention in her body cavity. She's better today even tried to steal my lunch of the kitchen table this morning so we are holding thumbs that all works out.

Re: Rusty is sick
Rusty is chasing rats (alot of them judging by the amout of boa's around) in doggy heaven. Hubby just phoned me she found a nice sunny spot in the garden and took a very long nap. So that is were she will be buried and we will plant a tree there. It's sad but I feel at least she wasn't somewhere she didn't know and afraid (she didn't like vets much). I have allready contacted the local rescue centre and we are first in line for a ridgeback when one comes in.
