Re: Horse show this past weekend
it's my dream to buy a few friesian mares and a really nice stallion and have a breeding program. i also want to do the same thing with Gypsy vanners.

Re: Horse show this past weekend
I love horses... I just want a clydesdale stallion, a fresian stallion, and a gypsy vanner mare. The gypsy would be for my SCA events where I'm supposed to be prim and proper, the fresian would be my "warhorse" at wars like Pennsic, and the buckskin would be my trail horse.
I don't have horses gelded or fixed... a beast like that isn't meant to not be completely intact.

Re: Horse show this past weekend
all the horses i've had are mares or geldings. i've always wanted a stallion - i think if the foal my mare is about to have is a colt, i'll keep it intact if my dad lets me.

Re: Horse show this past weekend
Unless the colt is a truely well bred horse with a ton of potential - there's no point in keeping him a stud. You have to have 10 times better pasturing and fences and you have to deal with an animal that is always thinking with his "second brain". I can't imagine what would possess anyone to keep any horse a stud unless there is great show potential behind him. It's going to be a constant struggle the rest of his and your life and it's just an all around bad decision.

Re: Horse show this past weekend
*Shrugs* I never had problems with my arab stallion. Or my clydesdale. They were sweet as buttons, and were MUCH more fun than fat and lazy geldings with no -craving- for learning new things.
But that's my limited opinion.
