I'm a dog food nut-job, it's like my second hobby because dobies have sensitive tummies generally. If you have a costco near you and are on a budget, go with the costco brand. Now hear me out, costco contracts out to Diamond, a fantastic dog food company. Best bang for your buck, and a better food than Iams or Eukanuba, both owned by the same company, and both of which use corn as a main ingredient. Sure, it's not the FIRST ingredient, but when you add up all the amounts of corn products in it, corn is the #1 component.

Other great foods include Chicken Soup for the Dog-Lover (and economical), California Natural (has only 5 ingredients. The less the better), Wellness, and Eagle Pack (has probiotics to help with gas). My dogs had horrible gas on the dick patten's stuff and hated the taste. It was too hard to chew also. These foods cost more than the ones at the grocery store, but they are so digestible that the dogs need to eat less to get the nutrition they need. That means firmer smaller poops and less pick up time for you! Because they eat less, it also means the foods are comparable or less in price than the beneful-type crud you get in the grocery store.

EDIT: The costco brand is called Kirkland and cost $20 for a 40lb bag. It's diamonds top of the line kibble. Called something like chicken, rice and vegetables or lamb, rice and vegetables. I prefer the lamb to avoid allergies. For the price and the quality, it's what i'd choose. :-p I also like California natural and Innova EVO a lot, though EVO has been known to give bad gas.

Oh, if you just Google Iams or Eukanuba those sites will pop up.

Wasn't Diamond brand dog food the one a few years ago or recently where several hundred bags of it got contaminated and a bunch of dogs got really sick and died?

I believe that's the brand I'm thinking of.

It was, but that's very uncommon in the dog food industry as a whole. I can understand why that would make you concerned, but that happens in human food sources a lot too. I'm still eating spinach and white onions.
