Have you ever owned one?
What makes you feel so strongly? The completely misinformed news articles?
Whatever info you have that scientifically proves that pitbulls have a genetic defect making them "ticking time bombs" please share.

a friend had the sweetest pitbull i had ever met. it did not have a bad bone in its body, it cuddled peed itself with happiness when it would see people, and would like you like crazy
then they had a baby, one day that sweet little pitbull ripped that child to shreds. And it wasn't playing - it never tore any of its toys to shreds

Sorry to hear that. I have read books on the subject and it's very likely that there was some sort of abuse in the dog's history, or there were signs of dominance/aggression nobody noticed.

I personally think this thread should be closed. If by any chance someone were to jump in here now and again question Barry's right to have an opinion other than 'do nothing, Pits are nice' or explain how it was the parent's fault that yet another child was killed by one of these dogs I know that I for one would be very likely to make an offensive and abusive response.

its not that they were so nice to each other , its not like they wer waggin their tail at eachother. but they didnt engage in any kind of fight.. iv been rasing, breeding and currently train pitt bulls for a living and i can say from experience that not many people know how tho deal with this perticular breed..... MY DOGS GOT MY BACK

My girlfriend has a pit/hound mix. I LOVE the dog. She is the sweetest gentlest, most loving dog I've ever seen. She gives hugs, does tricks, and is the biggest ham I've ever seen when playing for your attention... Absolutely perfect dog...
That is until she's around very small children.
I don't trust her at all with toddlers and babies.

I dont trust my snakes around my daughter, I dont trust my cat around my daughter, and if I had a dog, even a smaller one, I doubt I would trust it around her either.
Does that mean I think the dogs should be banned, no, just regulated to hopefully help keep them out of the wrong hands, or ensure the proper keeping of the dog.
It really is a horrible tragedy, the story hinted the little girl knew the dog, since she asked her mom if she could help it "as she had done before" so it almost sounds like the dog just freaked, being caught on the fence. Injured animals are known to do that, and hindsight is 20/20 I'm sure the mother wishes she hadn't said "yes" to her daughter's request, and I'm sure the owners wish they had secured the dog better.
Very sad for all involved.
