Pitbulls?
Anyone have a pitbull my friends brother has a pure bred and is trying to find someone to breed her with this isnt why i posted though. I was wondering if i should buy one i know i can care for it i have raised 1 dog from a puppy to 10 years and she is beggining to get old and is really showing it ...I was wondering if there is any special things with them from other dogs that they need or do or w.e. Whats a resonable price for a puppy? Also where can i find on the web to train it if i was to get one i want her to be a watch dog one of the ones the cops have . The one my friends brother has all he has to do is say "watch" and if you get to close to him she will bite you and then let go.

You dont want to train a pitbull to be aggresive the breed already has a bad rep you dont need to add to that just becuse you think its cool. here is a pic of my pit nala she is such a sweet hart and does not have a mean bone in her body

There are SO many unwanted Pit Bulls in the world now...Please tell him not to breed his!! If you want to do something good for the breed, go save a puppy in need of saving from the dog pound and encourage your friend to get his dog fixed so it won't make any pups!
Never ever train a Pit to be mean or to bite. They will protect you automatically if they need to.

I don't agree. Though it is obvious there are many well-behaved pit-bulls and caring owners (such as pictured here) it has been demonstrated to my satisfaction that pitbulls have a kind of genetic 'kill it' switch, hard-wired in their heads.. and in some circumstance, unexpected and even very unlikely, that switch gets triggered and they attack with the intent of killing.
.
I'm thinking I may have mentioned this before in a similar thread but here's an example of what I'm talking about.. I had a female pit, very playful and attentive and never showed agression except to other dogs who would come by and mark the fence..a real tail-wagging lap-dog.. she happened to see a concrete rabbit that I had in the garden (she had seen it before many times with no reaction), this time some different angle, shadow, smell in the air pushed her buttons and she charged it and attacked.. she would not let up and broke off the concrete ears (and one of her canines) in the attack..
.
Now these are powerful animals and matched with that kind of blind ferocity they are dangerous.. imagine if a child had been the target? That's why pit-bulls aren't for everybody.
.
Just my opinion....

As long as people keep the animals fenced and properly trained, I don't have a problem with pits. But I agree with Gus that there is a "switch" in their brain that can flip for no apparent reason. I would consider them a potentially dangerous animal and hold them in the same catagory as venomous reptiles and crocodilians.
Maybe I am just jaded because I was on the receiving end of a Pitbull attack.

I personally love pits, but you do have to respect them. I would be very careful espiecally if there are children around.

I agree with Gus. I don't believe they should be open purchase animals.

When i was attacked, I had the random luck that there was a tire iron on the ground next to me. After it tried to rip my leg arpat, it went for my throat. I managed to put my left arm up when it went for my throat. While it was trying to tear my left arm off, I was able to grab the tire iron with my right and smashed it in the head as hard as i could. It sounded like I was hitting concrete, just a loud "PING". It let go, backed up, shook its head, gave me a confused look, and went about its business. Guess it takes a whack from a tire iron to flip the switch back off.

Also, that was a friend's Pit that had known me since it was a puppy, not a random stray.

Yeah she is a pure bred
bye the way about the whole kill switch thing even though my dog is very loving and has never attacked anything or anyone . There are certian people that walk bye my fence that make her hair stand on end and she obviously does not like them. Now whather or not they pick on her when im not watching i cant say but I tend to think they do because its only certain people that bug her.

Until you are on the receiving end, one cannot fathom the actual power of these animals.

A couple years ago I lived in an apartment building. One of the other tenants had 2. One day they attacked a little girl and would have killed her if a guy hadn't been near and grabbed a stick and got them off her.
They're illegal in Miami-Dade county, wish they were in Broward too (where I live)

I believe in regulation rather than elimination. I don't think there are many animals that should just be banned from private ownership. But regulation to ensure responsible keepers is not a bad idea. Just off the top of my head, requiring extensive training, ensuring a secure fenced yard, and limit of 2 come to mind. More than 2 is a pack ( can be a pack as well of course).

I stand by that pitbulls are not mean dogs they just have mean owners and are not brought up with love. Regulation is definatly the way to go to keep idiots from breeding and owning them to fight.

I have been around Pitt Bulls going on 25 years. I will give it to yall some can be mean but, I have seen a ton of other mean dogs that people call lap dogs. What makes them different between them and lap dogs are they have a never give up attitude in everything they do be it playing, pulling, running, tug of war and of course fighting... In the wrong hands they are like any other large breed dog they can do damage. Remember Dobermans were the nasty dogs, then the German Shepards, then the Rotts and Pitts, then the Presa's. I mean how many of you ever heard of a Presa till they killed that lady in Cali? Did you see how many people started breeding them right after that? I remember in a years time you would only see a litter a couple times a year in the Washington Post till that happened. When bad people hear about tuff dogs they want the most aggressive one on the block. Its natural for these people to feel like a tuff guy if they have a tuff dog no one is going to mess with them while they are walking it. I don't think they should ban dogs they should have more laws to put away bad people that use these and other dogs as tools of their trade. They just get slaps on the wrist when it comes to them fighting dogs but they put the dogs down right away when they catch them doing what they were taught to do by these scum bags to survive. Any breed will fight if they are taught to do it but some dogs have more of a game attitude and excel at it. Are they for everyone of course not but I feel the same way about any large breed dog.
