Snake of the Month
Polls are up for the latest edition of the only true battle of the snakes that we truly love to see
Redtailboa.nets Snake of the Month for April 2004
(link on the home page, contest block)
I am also considering a 'HOTS' only edition very soon for the contest.
Sure, not everyone keeps hots, but as they do so well in the contests, I feel they need their very own contest once in a while
What does everyone think about it?
Same rules apply also, two different hot, your hots and your pic.
Possibly for the May or June contest, so let's hear your thoughts

i dont think it is a good idea.
if all of the hots are in their own SOM (or HOM), how is that going to affect the SOM?
Are there anough entries every month to justify their own contest? I mean if you take the hots out of the SOM will there be enough entries to sustain the SOM on a regular basis?
If there is say 40 entries a month and half were hots, I'd say yes. Is this the case?
Always the pessimist.....

I dont see how it would take away from the SOM cause there was only one this month and dont remember but only seen one last month and i think it was a the winner this is just my 2 cents but i think ppl see the hots and just vote for them cause there hots thats way they need there own contest

Just a one time show, or just one SOM of the year that is to see how it goes.
If the interest is peaked enough and it gets the vens forum moving along with more members etc, I may even consider doing two contests, SOM and HSOM

is there a tie breaker for these monthly contests at the end of the year? Like all 12 winners go up against eachother?

Lasttime I thought about the Snake of the Year, was when the site was hi-jacked and it never came to fruition..
Never thought about it since then...
Maybe if there was a good prize, say a stupid fast red RX7 from the Dallas Texas area

the idea was that the 12 monthly winners were going to have a SOY contest. there was also an idea thrown around of doing a RTB calendar with the 12 monthly winners from like November through October so the calendar could be made and distributed before the new year.
Again like eddie said when the site got hijacked, we kinda put this on the back burner. Then I ended up over here and the idea was forgotten. UNTIL NOW!
This is something I wouldn't mind getting done.
Now back to the SOM and the possible HSOM.
Eddie, honest count here...
How many snakes were entered in the last 3 months of SOM?
How many of each month were hots?
And of the 3 months, did the hots win each time?

I believe a hot has won every time one has been entered.
Jim, it isn't about making every contest a hots only event.
Just a one time idea, to see how it goes, participationwise, mainly because we do have quite a few that keep hots and some that keep hots exclusively.
With the search engines scanning the site daily, it is likely to draw even more into the site, as well as new memberships and give the vens forum a faster paced life. ( I may submit a news article to get more search engine hits also )
RTB has evolved well past being only about redtails, yet the vens forum is growing a bit slower than the rest of the site.
I want to give it a boost and a special recognition for the work that BW, Brett and many others have put into it with a special edition contest.
And, as I said, now it is an idea I have been tossing around for a while, just going public to get a general idea of what everyone thinks about it first
Oh yeah.. side note.. we were too late for the early movie and hit Hollywood vid instead

sound interesting eddie. i almost think there should be a separate contest for redtails. there are so many and i usually vote for something other than one, not because i don't like them or that they aren't great pics, but probably because there are so many. of course, you can't have 5 separate contests. how often do redtail pics win? i know the striped one did a couple of months ago.

having an semi annual hot competition would be great....I think it would add something to the site that other sites might not have---I am so into hots, but I have to live vicariously through you all---so let's do it!!!

The other day there was a thread started notifying members of the impending deadline for SOM submissions. I emailed two photos to the posted address before the deadline, yet don't see them to be voted on............?

Hey Kent, I think your email got overlooked because it was the only SOM entry in the new mailbox and I possibly hid it from Eddie. You'll be in next month. Sorry about the mistake.
Hey Eddie, the new mailbox doesn't tell you how many or if any messages are in the LOM & SOM folders for some reason. I moved his mail to the SOM folder.
