Bleeder's Club Calendar- Is it appropriate?
There was some joking a while back about doing this, but nothing ever came of it. The topic has recently come up again, but there has been some debate over whether or not such a thing would be appropriate. There are some who feel that getting bit is just part of owning a snake; it happens, might as well make the best of it, and hopefully keep others from making the same mistake that got us munched on. With appropriate disclaimers, this could be done. Others feel that this is a bad idea because 1) it's bad publicity in general 2) some idiot may go getting bit intentionally just to make the calendar.
Do you feel that a Bleeder's Club Calendar would be inappropriate, and if not, would you buy one?

Idiot is kind of a strong word don't you think? Scott were you not the one that perposely antagonized an Ammie into biting you?lol
Besides its not my fault my snakes don't like to bite me. Just think i was just going to take a f/t rabbit and rub it all over me, to get a bite.

If done tastefully with both a pic of the bite and a good shot of the culprit it could be cool. I'm not sure if I'd buy it, but if it costs RTB nothing to send them a design go for it. I think it would be kinda funny. The truth is snakes bite, that's why everyone and their mother doesn't have one, but that's why only people with some balls (pun intended) keep snakes.

It was actually a dig at me Bry, in relation to the "Bonus Points" thread awhile back...I beg the pardon of all idiots who I might have offended

If by "antogonized" you mean picked it up, then yes.

I already voiced my opinion to Scott about this but will repeat it here, too:
Posting pics of being bitten in our forums are one thing. It is an, "Oops, I goofed" type of a deal (usually *looks at Scott* )
Making it into a contest brings about a whole other mindset. There are those that will do it on purpose just to see their picture make it to print. How bad of a bite someone is willing to take on for that is anybody's guess. *shiver*
Then there is the fact the calender is in print, possibly in view of the 'general public'. I see that as bad press. It will show people that owning snakes is in fact dangerous and will push for more legislation against the keeping of them. Although we may know differently, the general public doesn't.

I tried to stay fairly neutral when I originally posted this, but feel it's time to play the devil's advocate (not that he needs one)...
OK, people getting bit intentionally we really couldn't do anything about. It'd be simple enough to do, and call an SFE or a defensive strike, and none would know better. We'd have to count on the common sense of our members, and for the most part, we've got it.

You call it bad press, I call it an education opportunity. I've got that pic of me and Bastage on my desktop at work...and you better believe people asked about it, especially the management team. I've ended up having a lot of long discussions that wouldn't have started otherwise, and for the most part, there is a far better understanding of my hobby. There's no such thing as bad press if the story is told right. Where would the "general public" see these calendars anyway? In my home? At my desk at work? It's not like I'm gonna hang one on the door of City Hall and leave it there so they can set appointments to ban my snakes...more than likely it'd be hanging from my fridge. Either way, it would be somewhere where I frequently am, and would be available to explain why I have something so grotesque. And is it really any worse than the numerous Bleeder's Club threads on this site? I wonder which would actually get more exposure, this website, available to anyone with an internet connection, or the few calendars we'd sell? How many of the other calendars have sold so far? I don't suppose there would be anyway to make the calendar available to Bleeder's Club members only, but who else really would buy it? We all laugh and joke about membership and it's privileges, but poo away the first product idea?
Ok, so there's the other side of the coin...

To be honest, I think it could work both ways. Guess it up to the majority though.

I honestly thought this would draw a little more debate, and definitely more voting. hmm. The race is closer than it looks though, with (at the moment) 6 votes for and 8 against. Surely more than 14 people have an opinion about this. I know there's more than that in the Bleeder's Club alone...

And then it was all tied up...8 to 8 at the moment. No one else has a say?

I disagree...for many of the reasons listed above. I think the whole thing only fuctions to stimulate the unnessecary fears people already have of snakes. Imagine someone with an irrational fear seeing a calender of bites. Just does not seem like the most productive way to promote our hobby.
