What's the best substrate to keep a Eastern Hognose Snake on?

It should be also noted that eastern hognose can get dehydrated rather easily if kept on a very dry substrate - they need a little more humidity than their western counterparts. I prefer cypress mulch myself, but sometimes use aspen.

I was thinking aspen because it is somewhat dense and doesn't collapse when tunnels are formed underneath. My kingsnake and other colubrids love the stuff. But, from what Ravnos says about dryness, aspen does seem pretty dry. So, I don't know if aspen is a good choice for an eastern hognose. He's more experienced with hognoses than I am. May I suggest a bedding of cedar?

For those who don't know me, I was just joking, I would never seriously suggest cedar due to its toxic effect on reptiles. PLEASE DON'T EVER use cedar.

I've had alot of luck with aspen, as long as you mist them down every once in a while. A couple times a week would be adequate, they don't need to be drenched and they're not blood pythons. And it is -much- easier to keep clean than cypress mulch.
