Re: Our new baby!
Not enough places for him to really hide. A little to open for the little guy...you can use paper towels (just change them often) but aspen bedding works great, too. Give him a hiding place that has a hole small enough for him to fit in, and one where he's not easily seen into unless you lift it up, to give him more of a secure feeling. Also, Kingsnakes like lots of rubbage to hide under (by that I mean slabs of bark, fake plants on the ground, etc). They love to coil up in it, and "blend in". So you could try that, too.
Good idea for a water bowl, too. lol
Also, consider getting a ziploc tupperware container and cutting a hole in the side of it, and then put moist moss in it. After that, put the lid to the container back on it and put it upside-down. That way, the snake has an easy-to-clean humid hut, that can also be opened up so you can easily remove him if needed. Plus, the moisture doesn't get in the aspen, which calls for less cage cleanings.
By the way, he's adorable. Congrats!

Re: Our new baby!
Get some smaller hides. Snakes like to feel safe and snug.
He's a beauty!

Re: Our new baby!
He's totally wicked adorable! You can buy lots of silk vines at Walmart for relatively cheap and pile them into his tank. It will make him feel more secure, especially since the tank is exposed on all 4 sides.

Re: Our new baby!
It's an improvement but think small, dark and cozy. You might want to get something in there to measure temps and humidity too-you can pick up an Accurite from walmart for about 11 bucks.
