Taiwan Beauty Snake behavior
Why do these snakes have such a bad rep???? Mine is a perfect angel. I know I have only had him for a day but he shows no signs of aggresion! Why are these snakes seen as mean???

Re: Taiwan Beauty Snake behavior
Because a lot of them ARE mean.
Just because you have one snake that is nice and sweet, doesn't mean they all are.
Mine for example, is a rotten little turkey baster.
Some days he's sweet as pumpkin pie, other days he'd just as soon rip off my face. And you know, he never lets me know his mood until after I have him out of the cage? He's evil. I should have named HIM Satan instead of my sweet JCP. LOL
But yes - they have a "bad rep" because the mean ones are the rule, and not the exception. Not to say there aren't plenty of sweet ones out there, which there are.
Just wait. Yours will either stay "friendly" or.... it won't.
As I said when you got it - good luck.

Re: Taiwan Beauty Snake behavior
They are really a very calm snake. It is the owner that can turn them aggresive.

Re: Taiwan Beauty Snake behavior
Ah, yes and no.
For mammals, like cats and dogs and horses and rats, this is very true.
Snakes are born or hatched as very basic predators. They can be nippy, or can be tolerant. Beauties are notorious for coming into the world as nippy, or even downright aggressive. Most are flighty at best. Some few are really actually very good snakes, with temperaments akin to corns. This is a scant few, however.
Snakes more often than not start out mean, and can usually be "tamed" to an extent. Not so often can they start out tame, and become aggressive unless there is an underlying health issue, or improper husbandry, or they're starving, etc.
Just because YOUR ONE snake is a total sweety and a benevolent love, does NOT mean the whole species is like that.
By the same token, just because ONE snake of any species is mean to the core, does not mean the whole species is like that.

Re: Taiwan Beauty Snake behavior
In my experience, the majority of Beauty Snakes can be quite
nippy. Getting a docile one is nice, but it does not disprove the stigma the species carries with it.
