Northern Mexican Pine snake
Just adopted the meanest most gorgeous snake ever! Hehe. A lady had him since he was a baby and could no longer take care of him, so I took him on. He is in way to small of a tank, but im working on getting him a bigger one. She said since shes had him he was always soo tame and loved to be held, and within the last months has become extremely aggressive. Which is really true, as soon as I walk in the room if hes not hiding hes striking at the glass.. IS there any way to get him back to the way he used to be? Is this normal for these guys to be nice one day then total change? Regardless, I think he is adorable and soo pretty.. Here is the best pic I could get.. Also, is sand ok for them or should I change it? Its all shes used for the last 2 years..
Thanks so much!

Re: Northern Mexican Pine snake
He is much better looking than any other pics I've see of this species, you are lucky getting him. What is his age? Has he actually hit you open mouthed?
If I may suggest, you should consider a larger enclosure with a heat gradient and more hiding places at the warm and cool ends. He looks a little crowded to my eyes. Often a snake in a too small enclosure will get a little nippy.
If he is new to you put him somewhere he can be totally undisturbed other than feeding for a few weeks.
Also I would lose the play sand if you feed in that enclosure, could cause impaction.

Re: Northern Mexican Pine snake
Nice looking jani. Our pair have never been aggressive... they are the calmest of all our pits with the exception of our Pacific gopher. And yes, lose the sand. Use newspaper... if he wants to hide he'll go under it.
Remember to keep him a tad cooler than you would usually keep other pits.
Funny you post this now... I just moved our gravid female into an enclosure we can easily see into so I can check for eggs here in a few days.
