Re: What Species is this snake???
I don't know. I thought the same thing and asked my brother in law and he doesn't know, he just came across the pics and sent them to me. If only we had at least an idea of the locality we could start making some good guesses. So sorry, this is all the info I have.

Re: What Species is this snake???
I think that's the Western Electrical Box Snake (EBS). Looks like a scene from Snakes on a Plane.

Yea, you do see a lot of pics of them in trees or invading bird feeders/houses for their occupants.

Re: What Species is this snake???
I'm betting the whole thing was staged or faked somehow. Note the guy just standing by the truck in the first photo and the seeming aggressiveness of the second snake coming down from the top of the box while the other snake is still just laying there.
I have a Black Rat that is sometimes defensive but I have never seen one that would not flee at the first chance and that open box is the first chance.

Re: What Species is this snake???
I know people who work for the electric and cable companies that have witnessed this sort of thing. One guy that works for the cable company keeps snakes so does educational presentations to his co-workers about how to identify the native species and what to do in these situations.

Re: What Species is this snake???
I hope they didn't get hurt when they were being taken out. They certainly don't look too happy about being intruded on. I'd much rather open a box and find a bunch of snakes than a bunch of spiders. I would consider that my lucky day.
