Looks like a brown water snake to me, but the way the water distorts the head and makes it look would still have me wondering. XD;
For a brief second I almost thought it was a copperhead until I looked a little closer..

Thanks. I googled water snakes yesterday, and the brown water snake pics were the closest I could find. I just wasn't sure. I'm fairly convinced now. I read a little about them. I guess they musk and bite if they can. Just as well he swam to deep water before I could get a good hold on him  I see a lot of them while fishing in the river.

Looks like a brown to me. My second guess would be Northern. Nerodias can be a bit tricky since they breed with anything without fins.
