genetic deformities in corn snakes
earlier this year i picked up a pair of cornsnake from a friend's friend for $60 and she gave me a 55gallon tank w/stand and a couple offspring from the group. the babies had a couple kinks in there back and i just figured it was from improper incubation. while i was wrong the male which is normal and over 4ft long has a gene that carries that genebecuase my babies just hatched from my original amel female and the babies have the kinked back. so know i'm stuck with deformed babies that would be no good for breeding in the future ands i'm expecting another clutch of eggs from the other female that bred with the same male. if these babies come out the same i will know for sure it is the male and my the male is going to be place out of the breeding group and ut into my display group. what should i do with the babies. the group i got from her are yearlings and are 2ft long and eat fine. this is just upsetting me becuase i was counting on the babies to keep for future breeding and now i can't. any suggestion on what to do with the babies wuld be very helpful.

Re: genetic deformities in corn snakes
Not to sound morbid...
You can sell them off as feeders (BW?) or give away as pets...

Re: genetic deformities in corn snakes
sell them to people who have coral snakes, kingsnakes or king cobras.
they'd make great food.

Re: genetic deformities in corn snakes
If they are anything like the ones I got out of my first pair of African House Snakes they would not make good pets because the kinking will easily increase. Those babies, Milksnake food, would have needed very special carefull handling.
Put them down and sell the causal parent as a non breeder pet.

Re: genetic deformities in corn snakes
sorry to hear that! Well if i were in your postion i would put them down. As john said the kinking will easily get worst. Its hard but it sometimes must be done. Well good luck with watever you choice is.

Re: genetic deformities in corn snakes
i plan to use the male for presentation becuase it is so big the females are fine. the photo i posted is of the older ones and it is 2ft long and has no problems. it eats everything in its way.

Re: genetic deformities in corn snakes
I wouldn't sell them.
Giving them away as feeders (what a bummer) or to good homes would be the best thing.
Any you didn't want to keep should be humanely euthanized. It sucks, and it's just my opinion, but I don't agree with passing on an animal that could potentially carry a bad gene to further perpetuate genetic deformities
