Re: Vet Trip...
I'll be thinking about her.
Was the vet able to take a look at your pup too?

Re: Vet Trip...
No... pup gets to wait until next payday... he's doing ok on painkillers so far. His new bed is helping, too.
Now, as for Candy....
I had a wonderful lady vet today, and we talked about husbandry, what I'm doing, what I've been doing, how long since this, how long since that, and all the associated background stuff. As we got into talking about treatment, she paused and commented, "You know... most of the snake people we get in here are really far out there. It's so refreshing how normal you are."
o.O This woman is a bad judge of character, apparently. lol
Anyway... We talked about calcium injections, she said she could send me home with pre-loaded calcium hypodermic needles, but I told her I didn't want to try the calcium injections, because the risks associated are too high, and there hasn't been enough successes that I can find with them to back up spending so much money I don't even have on it.
We then talked about Oxytocin, and egg aspiration. She said she thought surgery is likely, and that the vet who I talked to at the same office shouldn't have told me to wait quite so long.
We opted to do an Oxytocin injection there in the office, and she sent me home with another syringe full of it to give Candy in the morning, if she hasn't laid her eggs by then.
If by late afternoon tomorrow she hasn't laid her eggs, then I should take Candy back in to aspirate the egg closest to her vent and administer the calcium as the last resort. If that doesn't work... *sighs* I can neither afford to have her go in for surgery, and even if I could, I really, really, really don't want to subject Candy to anaesthesia. I've seen the side effects that are too common for comfort associated with anaesthetizing snakes.
If we have to go as far as aspiration, and even that doesn't work... I'm dreading telling my little brother that the only acceptable option is to have her put down. I've already explained to him everything so far, and he knows there is the possibility of Candy dying.
I really do love Candy, and my little brother loves her just as much, she's his first snake. Neither one of us are interested in making that final descision, though he and I and mum have agreed that should the aspiration and calcium not work, Sean(my little bro) and I will go into the vet together, to talk things over, and see if there's any way around surgery, and if not, to discuss Final Options.
In the meantime, however... Candy should be starting contractions in about an hour, according to when the vet said the Oxytocin should be taking effect. She has her nest box, and I'm not going to even look in on her until tomorrow morning... I'm going to give her complete privacy.
Well... for all you compassionate people seeing this thread, send birthing vibes, keep her in your prayers, light a candle, a stick of incense, ask the earth mother for help, however you do, Candy needs all the help she can get.
*crosses fingers and hope hope hopes*
