Does anyone know of any colubrids that are all green just like a smooth or rough green snake? I really like their color, but they are too small. I would go for a ETB or GTP but they arent in my budget. They are the most awesome of any green snake I know of though. Funny how that works, the best cost the most. Oh well.

Bingo! Get an Ahaetulla prasina! They are fantastic snakes, pretty unique. They are relatively common where I live, and I collected one opposite my place in June. I released it after taking some photos. I dunno how common they are in the pet trade though, and what prices they go at. They do well on geckoes, I heard.

Try 'em!

Ahaetulla (asian vine snakes) are real neat but are not real common in the pet trade, almost all of them are imports, in pathetic shape, and need a lot of work to start off with. Only eating lizards can get very expensive, or tiring if you're having to catch them all the time. Not to mention, being venomous. Rear-fanged, but still something to seriously consider. They sell for pretty cheap, because they have a tendancy to drop like flies. If you're paying more than 50 for one, thats way too much.

Others you might want to look into are Elaphe oxycephala - the red tailed green rat snake. Arboreal and feisty, but quite cool. Maybe Senticolis triaspis (another species of green rat snake), but most of those are not as strikingly bright green. If the vine snake tickles your fancy, maybe Oxybelis fulgidus (south american green vine snake) would be an option as well... might have a better chance of finding one of those in decent shape than an animal hauled all the way across the Pacific.

Thanks for all the ideas guys. I really like the elaphe prasina (green bush rat snake). They are all awesome snakes. What do you guys think would be the best way to go about finding one? Im keeping my eyes out on the classifieds online. And Im gonna go to the San Diego IRBA show in October but in July when I went I didnt see anything like those vine or rat snakes. Thanks for any help.

Haven't seen many vine snakes for sale. A fella on kingsnake was trying to captive breed them a while back. GladesHerps and EBV sometimes have them (imports guaranteed)...

IF an ETB or GTP is out of your range, than so is a E. Prasina, but they're coming down slowly...

Oxybelis fulgidus is probably your best chance, but it'll most likely be an import too...

Lovely boomslangs. But they aren't green all the time. Females get olive green usually, but males can be brown, reddish, black apart from greens. Funky snakes though, they eat mainly chameleons.

Another thought to consider, how about Boiga cynodon, mostly green, quite common. Most boiga are good pets.

>>Dude Telefrag, you gotta hook me up if you get some of those good eggs.

I will let you know,

I have had them since 98 and have only had 1 clutch of fertile eggs,
I tried something different this year and hope it does the trick, they have been copulating quite a bit, but if she becomes gravid from it will be the real fun.

I dont know what market price is on them, but up until a year or two, there were only a handful in the US, when I got them there were about 10 or maybe even 12 in the states.
As far as I knew of,
they are available now, but most of them are the same bloodline.

Let me know if you have any questions about them,
IM me or something.
