A pretty garter snake pic....
.. another photo from the ranch..
.

.
.. a blacknecked garter. Fairly common but mostly seen seasonally, after rains. There's a cave on the ranch that goes deep enough so there is moisture year-round.. one little crack at the end (of where sane people would try to squeeze in) has had several of these laying around waiting out the hot weather both times I've stuck my head in there.

We appreciate it, regardless of the reason. BW has all the room to talk. I never see garters around the house. I wish I would though. We have corns all the time and then other ones that BW might appreciate, not me so much.

Hey Gus. I was wondering if you have any Mexican Burrowing Toads on your ranch?

Yes, they used to love my side yard right between my fence and my neighbors that we couldn't clean up so they took it upon themselves to take up residence. They would occasionally wonder into the pine needles or the back yard debree since it was wooded. The only other venomous I ever saw was some type of rattler that I couldn't identify at a golf course, nowhere near my house.
Now, since we moved I haven't seen any. I'm surprised though since about 3000 acres were just removed from behind my house for townhomes. I guess this area isn't as populated with them. They are about 10 minutes down the road at my mothers though. I do miss the corns though, we had a lot of beautiful corns and a resident gigantuous black snakes that would make most female BCI look tiny.
