maybe you should get some clips for the cages so you dont have to worry about the books?

lol if you had clips you would forget them too. i have had two snakes get out last year. same reason i just underestimated them both but i havent made that mistake again. i had my bullsnake push up the screen on a homemade top and i forgot to put the clips on my snakes cage

I have a slab of granite *left over from kitchen counters* that I keep on my Ball cage, forgot to put it on awhile back (back when they were housed together) and they BOTH got out...Huggy Bear was headin for the fridge, and Copper was under the couch...We know the routines now!

I have the opposite problem. I had 2 female ball pythons in a sliding screen top cage awhile back...fed them...put them back...got distracted with another snake and forgot to put the top on their cage. I didn't notice the top off for 3 days! But when I flipped up their hides, I found both snakes still in the cage lol.

At my old place, I left the snakeroom closet cracked open and left some clutter on the floor so when a snake got out, they would usually go there to hide and I could easily find them. One day, I noticed my really big Tiger ratsnake was out. I went to the closet...light was dim but I could see enough. I started pulling out the clutter looking for him. As I was tossing stuff out of the closet, I grabbed a hand full of snake that was much smaller than the tiger rat and all I could tell in the dim light was that it was orange. That's probably the fastest I had ever dropped a snake and jumped back. Luckily it was just a cornsnake and not a copperhead lol. All my coppers were present and accounted for. I did a quick head count and then resumed breathing.
