Great Pics of an Indigo with Rattlesnake
I was forwarded the following pics from brother of a friend. Not sure of the location at which the pics were taken, but since the friend is here in Houston, I believe the pics are of somewhere in central or west Texas. In any event, they are great pics of an Indigo with what appears to be a Western Diamondback, Crotalus atrox (BW or Julius can either of you confirm?). The below caption was with the email.
"Way Cool., I spotted this Indigo snake out getting his breakfast. The rattler is about 2.5", the Indigo about 5' As I sneeked up to snap a couple of pix, he reared-up and took off with the rattler's head in his mouth. Yum, Yum.....I guess he thought I was gonna take the rattler away from him, NOT!! I had heard for a long time Indigos did this, but have never seen it, now you have too."

Looks like South Texas. I'm from the Rio Grande Valley and as a kid I would see indigos in the brush country all of the time. Too bad they are not as plentiful any more. The old "vaqueros" used to always say that "las vivoras negras son buenas porque se comen a las vivoras de cascabel" (the black snakes are the good ones because they eat rattlers). Great pictures.
