Feeding\substrate questions

Hey all... its been awhile since ive posted.. I finally got Tsunami to eat somewhat on a regular basis.. but the trick was to feed her in her viv... i know this is not the best.. cuz if she eats a piece of the subtrate she may get mouth rot... but what should i be watching for... is a teeny tiny hair sliver not going to harm her???.. or should i be in panic mode... I currently use the Zoo Med Cypress mulch!! because I can mist it down to keep up the humidity during the winter... last summer i was using the Repti-Bark... Can i mist Repti-bark and not worry about Mildew/Mold buildup... that way i won't have to worry so much about her eating a hair sliver of the cypress mulch??
Any thoughts or tips would be great... this is the only way i can get her to eat.. and she seems quite happy to do so this way!! Ive tried everything it was the last resort and it works!!

Thanks for any advice or help you can give,

Eraser

I think that its called impaction, if they eat a piece of substrate, my 3 boas are all on newspaper. It dont look pretty but its cheap and safe! esp if you must feed in viv.

You can put the rat on a paper plate, then sit the plate in the cage. If she needs movement to strike wave it directly over the plate and she should come down somewhere on it.

Lightbulb

mouth rot is like a cheesy substance that could be hanging frum the gum or look like sumthing is lodged in he/r gums, my BP had a minor case of this but shes ok now. thank GOD!!

but i would say as long as like 2 hours after you feed he/r i would check around h mouth or pry it open if you want i would recommend doing that, b/c that could cuse strees, well good luck to ya...

-justin!

BTW yes i do think its called impact where they get a piece of substrate or bedding in their mouth when its time to feed and i thin ive read it rots and causes a lot of bacteria formation and thats how your reptile would get mouth rot.....
