Get one and don't handle it, if you do, make sure it's minimal. The meaner the better...lol

haha! jesse's pulling your leg.
they can be tame, they can be aggressive, if you get a young one, and work with it alot, it will probably grow up to be fairly tame.
some are all bark and no bite, some are very passive, others are outwardly aggressive.
Ive kept a number of southern pines, and they were either really mellow, or really nervous.
It was pretty 50/50, so if you get one, buy it in person so you can get a idea of how the animal will react to you.
that way you dont get stuck with a 6+ plus mean , and fairly intimidating snake.

I've only worked with about a dozen northern pines (Pituophis melanoleucus melanoleucus) and was never bit, however most would hiss loudly when first picked up. As a side note, next to indigo snakes, the pine snakes have the worst smelling poop of any snake that I've dealt with.

IF that wasn't a real answer I don't know what is. I prefer a pine snake to be mean, personal preference. I have a baby patternless that gets #$%^$%^$%^$%^$%^$%^& off just because you walked in front of her. A tame pine... I don't see the point. Then you will never get to see the hissing and striking. They also get big.

I dunno john, Elaphe taeniura have some pretty stinky poop, but I would say its about equal to "pit" poop.
I had a cribo (forgot which ssp, I think it was melanurus), and its poo wasnt all that bad.
definately stinky, but not super stink.

its really not that bad... you just have to get to it quickly before they crawl through it and make it worse.
