problems with comp
I was having problems with an ac wire that I had overnighted from DELL---this is the only comp that has net access btw.
The wire was frayed....no big deal. The new one comes yesterday and it (which has a transformer attacher with a green light that goes on when it's working) doesn't work.
I tried to explain this to the idiot on the phone form Tech support. Apparently, to be a tech support person all you need is rudamentary english and half an IQ.
I'm on the phone for AN HOUR.
Bozo the clown tells me I need to ship the comp back because I need a new mother board and the comp will no longer work----this morning I tie up the old wiring with tape---and low and behold----I must be a freakin genius because it works!
Now, you don't think that MAYBE the wire or transformer MIGHT be at fault do ya?
In any cAse if I drop off the face of the earth it's because I' trying to fix the situation---
thanks guys....

LMAO....fairly close to right in many cases Nicole. It's frustrating to sit on the phone for an hour and then deal with someone that thinks your an idiot, but consider the following:
These are exampes of actual tech problems called into tech support.
1) my cup holder is broken...can I get another?
excuse me? Your cup holder? That is a cd-rom drive....not a cup holder. I have actually seen people us it for that. DOH!
2) my foot pedel does not seem to function...can you help?
ehhh...yeah...put it up on the desk and use your hand to operate it...it's a mouse. :P
3) (this acutually happened to me when I worked in a cpu lab in college.)
can you help me sir? I can't seem to get the cpu to read my disk.
ughh...yeah...the problem is that you shoved the thing in backwards and upside down. Ever heard of finesse there She-ra?
4) I just bought this cpu and it doesn't seem to work.
Is there a plug coming out of the back of the cpu?
Yes.
Is it plugged into the wall?
Click...
What do you think these things run on people? LOL
So in closing, yes...you are a freakin genius.

well, our laptop broke after less than a month, and we had to send it back to HP, and my wife was on the phone everyday after work dealing with their customer "service" ppl, and it was a nightmare. they couldn't speak english, they were rude, and they lied. we were not happy.

I'm with Nicole on this one...
Many support jobs are gone from this land.. sent overseas..
BUT, even the techs here aren't too bright, afterall, many just use a standard manual for supposed situations that occur...
God help if you ask for the persons supervisor to complain about them.
I called one ISP to find out if the service was down in my area due to the overnight storms..
I was recommended to change my initialization string and modem settings as well as to delete some files from IE, when a simple yes or no would have worked.
I asked for their supervisor and WHOOPS!, the call was 'lost'.
Between their horrible customer service (americans) and their refusal to repair their servers or even update their servers......
Needless to say, I have been with another ISP ever since.

"I tried to explain this to the idiot on the phone form Tech support. Apparently, to be a tech support person all you need is rudamentary english and half an IQ."
lol That's actually quite true. The have 2, sometimes 3 levels of tech support, and Level 1 is who you get first. With absolutely no computer knowledge at all, they are sat in front of a computer with a database of known problems. They start from the top and read on down the line.........having no idea if what they tell you is relavent. Obviously these are minimum wage workers and english is optional.
After that fails to resolve your problem you get bumped to level 2 tech support. These are the guys who actually have some related training.
Level 3 consists of a highly secret and elusive cult of computer sages who intuitively know the answer to your problem before you can even ask. You are highly blessed if you ever speak to one of these guys because you'll learn more functional knowledge about computers in 2 minutes than the latest computer science grad did during his 4 years of educational beer drinking and skirt chasing. Be wary - such an enlightening experience is not without a tradeoff. Expect your hair and eyebrows to turn white if you encounter an OG. (Orignal Geek)

I spoke with one today and hopefully this is will resolved soon.
I hate getting lost in a computer operated phone system---and then when you finally get someone on the phone it's someone that has no clue what's up-=---and THEN you get passed to yet another person who you have to repeat everything to....UHGGG!
