Newbie Here!
well a few of you may know me from the canopy and if you do, you might as well not read this post cuz i'm gonna post the same stuff i did at the canopy when i introduced myself!
anyhow . . .
i'm a college student who owns herps and takes care a bunch at my university. i'm the animal care supervisor for out living collection in the biology department.
in my lifetime i've cared for one snapping turtle, one leaopard gecko, two white's tree frogs (1 i own personally), one baby alligator, one chinese fire belly newt, one mississippi map turtle (i own personally), one american green tree frog (i personally owned - he has passed), a red-tailed boa, a california kingsnake, two children's pythons, two great plains ratsnakes (emory's ratsnakes), a prehensile-tailed skink, two tiger salamanders, three green iguanas, two yellow-throated plated lizards, lots of madagascar hissing cockroaches, lots of rats, mice, and hamsters, two box turtles, a bunch of freshwater fish, a bunch of marine fish, and one apple snail. i know i'm forgetting something . . . i've also done research and observations on one of the most endangered turtles in the world - the chelodina mccordi (roti island snake-necked turtle). i'm still forgetting one of my babies, i know it!
i'm a senior double-majoring in biology and psychology and i'll have to stay and extra year (though just part-time) to finish it all. what i'm really into right now is reptile and amphibian behavior and husbandry, but there's no money in that and it's hard to break into anyway. i have no idea what i'll do when i graduate - probably work at some stupid petstore (which i HATE most petstores and petstore employees).
i'm 21 years old, though i look like i'm no older than about 14 and i'm an only child (God help me). i also have a 13 year old miniature red short-haired dachshund named ginger who is by FAR my favorite animal *ever*.
i also love to camp and hike and ride my bike (though i haven't ridden my bike in like 5 years). i've only been sking once but i LOVED it! i'm also now into the lord of the rings (biochic hooked me!!!)! i like to read and i love ancient egyptology, herpetology, computers (building, maintaining, trouble-shooting, you name it), swimming and diving. i HATE wearing dresses, most guys with really long hair, strict republicans and/or strict democrats (though i'm not an independant or green party member either - can you figure me out????, and being cold (which i am most of the time cuz i'm tiny and anemic - lol).
i'm coming to this forum from another one (NOT the canopy or the reptile room) which could be considered similar to this one except the administrators feel that they are right no matter what and that no one has a say except them. if you don't #$%^$%^$%^$%^& me off i sure won't do the same to you! live and let live, people!
i've made about 7 websites in my lifetime and i'm working on the next one. it's all about herps and will contain care sheets, pictures, information, tips, links, etc. i'm more than half done, but school keeps me busy. i'm hoping it will be up by summer at least.
i hope to get to know you all and share some of my knowledge and get some from ya'll! i'll shut my yap now!

Welcome to RTB!
About all we ask here, Cynthia, is to watch the language We consider this to be a family site and moderate as well we can to keep it that way.
As far as the Admins and Mods always being right...... aren't we? Actually, here it does pay to listen to them since many of them deal in rescues and have decades of experience. This isn't your 'garden variety' forum where they only think they know what they are talking about. Peruse the threads adn I think you'll see what I mean.

Welcome to the feeding-frenzy of RTB Cynthia. As Michelle (LdyDrgn) mentioned some of the Admins., Mods. and other members speak their minds freely, not with the intent to sound mean but because so many of us are passionate about the well being and proper care of the animals we love. I've been tending reptiles for more years than some members have been alive...but I still learn new things here at RTB! Enjoy!

wow great reception! hi everyone! i totally don't mind admins at all and i'm fine with watching my language - i will try to hide my wordy-dirds around here! my sign huh? what are you guys all astrologists or something? well my birthday is july 19, 1982 so that makes me a cancer. in the chinese year im a dog. i hate being a cancer b/c crabs are ugly and they bite people and eat dead crap PLUS it's named for one of the most horrible diseases man has ever known. can't i be a twin or a lion or a scale or something? BUT cancers are water-babies and that is TOTALLY me! i LOVE to swim! anything everything *WATER*! i LOVE diving, but i suck at it, but it's just so freeing. it's like flying! and swimming under the water is so peaceful. i love the water. i go to a small private u in ohio caled capital university. i can guarantee none of you have ever heard of it. lol. i love it, though. as you can tell i talk incessantly so if you ever want me to shut up please just say so!
glad to be here! hope to get to know everyone!

the crab is just the symbol it has taken on. The original sign was a scarob beetle. You could always refer to yourself as a MoonChild, the other name for the sign (take it from a fellow Cancerian ).
