Hello everyone! I am somewhat new to rtb.net. I have no snakes, or other reptiles for that matter (as of yet). For the time being I figure I should learn as much as I possibly can. If anyone has any advice about which snakes make good "beginner" snakes I would really appreciate it! I really have my heart set on a boa (BCI or BCC). What do y'all think???

I had considered ball pythons until one took a strike at me yesterday! I'm sure that it was my fault, but honestly I think it was just a little on the hungry side! I guess getting bit goes with the territory

Congradulations you have taken the first step in owning a reptile. I am glad to see that you are looking to learn about them before you go out and get one, usually it's the other way around. I think a BCI is a good starter. I guess it would depend on what size snake you want. Boaguy gave you good examples of starter snakes. and welcome to Redtailboa.net

Hahaha.. It's about time you spoke out around here. Good to have ya here.
Definatly go with the BCI. Better attitude and they stay a bit smaller than BCC.
And that BP you held.. Like I said earlier, it was probably wild caught. they can be somewhat nippy lil buggers.
Now.. just wait tilll the show. You think ya want one now. We are gonna have you really hooked by the time sunday comes around.

I wish !! No, nothing yet, but I suppose it couldn't hurt to read a few more books and pick everyone's brains for a little while longer

Hey Megan I haven't met ya yet but I've heard alot about ya! So you've fell in love with snake's? Great! Get with Barry one day and run to my place I'll gladly let ya handle any of mine to get a feel for different type's! I've got a Boa, Ball, Jungle Carpet, King, Corn, and Rat. Just remember don't take a strike personally some snake's will some won't! In matter of fact I got nailed at the show by a Blood Python that had no intention of me holding it! Hehe! And really it startle's more than it hurt's!
