Hey Guys! Another Noobie Here!!!
Hey guys,
I am new to this site. I just recently got a columbian red tail boa. She is about 3 1/2 feet long. I use to own a baby boy columbian RTB, which was about 22 inches long. I also at one point in time owned female columbian RTB who grew to be about 9 1/2 feet long. That was when I was about fifteen years old. My mom got rid of her one day while I was at school. She did it because back then, I was a little punk who could not follow any of the rules. The one thing that I am getting tried of hearing, is my relatives, both blood and the inlaws, keep giving me crap for having a snake with both of my young children in the house. I told them that if someone takes care of a snake properly, it won't harm the children. I believe that they are more safe to have then a dog. Go ahead and tell me what you think! I have a son that is 15 months old, and my wife is about to give birth to my baby girl anytime now!

Re: Hey Guys! Another Noobie Here!!!
Welcome to the site! I have a little one too, and have heard the whole speech from my in laws about having snakes in the house with a kiddo. I just shrug it off. As long as you keep the cages nice and secure, and practice good sanitary measures, there's nothing wrong with having snakes and kids. In fact I think raising kids around all types of animals gives them a healthy respect for life and nature.

Re: Hey Guys! Another Noobie Here!!!
Welcome!!! I have had 7ft boas at the same time my mom had my lil bro. Its all about maing sure you take it a step further to secure the snake. I honestly think if my 3ft male got out my lil brother would take a few bites from him then kill it lol. He's a tough lil baby. But anyways welcome to the site and congrats on the daughter you have coming!

Re: Hey Guys! Another Noobie Here!!!
I have two kids, Holly my 5 year old girl and Richard who's my 10 month old boy. And like you, I was a bit of a punk when I was a kid. My mother and my in laws all give me the same crap.Like Spix, I believe that if you make sure your reptiles are in a secure enclosure they won't be able to harm your kids or anyone. Also, I love the fact that my kids are exposed to reptiles, My daughter brings the shed skin into school and will tell the whole class all about the snakes, why they shed, how often etc etc. The teacher loves it.
