Yet Another New Guy Here
Hi there! I'm new to this forum so just wanted to check in and say hi. Besides being new to the forum, I'm also relatively new to snake keeping, as I just got my first back in late March. However, he is not a boa, Nigel (his name) is a ball python. I got him because I've wanted a snake as long as I can remember but my mom would never let me have one, but after getting out of school and having my own place, I took the plunge. Nigel has been nothing but awesome to keep, I love having him around more than I thought I would.
Despite loving the coloration of boas, I got a ball python over a boa, as I read that they were easier to take care of, and they don't get as big, so I felt it would ultimately be easier to care for him long term. I also like the coloration of ball pythons and I've had experience with them before, a teacher when I was in high school had one. However, now that I've had him for 3 months, I find myself wanting another snake, and that will most likely be a boa. Not that there is anything wrong with Nigel, if I never got another snake I'd be perfectly happy.
I think that I will wait another good while to be sure I really want a boa, nothing worse than getting one and then finding out it was an impulse buy. I also need to learn some more and decide if I can really care for one properly, and this forum seemed like a good way to do it.
So to end this ridiculously long post, hi, I'm Phecke and I look forward to getting to know you all, and look forward to learning some too.
PS Attaching some pictures of Nigel right after I got him, he has grown a surprising amount already, though.

Re: Yet Another New Guy Here
welcome aboard!
I did the same thing you are doing .... got a ball python as a first snake, waited a year, and then added a boa.
I think it was a great way to go....my ball is awesome and the boa is too! They're so different and each cool in their own way.
Kudos to ya -
take your time and enjoy!
