Re: Gone...
I know how you feel, Scott. I often wonder sometimes how I would need to deal with my animals should I come into a difficult hard time in my life, and even thinking about that brings tears to my eyes.
You're not a bad person at all for what you did. You did a great thing, doing what you thought was best for your animals... a lot of people would not have done that and just let them suffer.
I know that when things get settled down in your family, that perhaps someday you'll be able to add more scaley babies back into your life.
Take care of your family, and take care of yourself.

Re: Gone...
Don't ever think yourself a bad person for all this Scott. I know you only did what was best for you and your family and your animals. I am going through a similar situation right now and while I don't know whether my whole collection will have to go, I am very likely looking at a downsize and I know how hard it is to deal with. The right thing to do is not always the easiest.
And I don't want a refund whether you end up getting that milk or not, Scotty boy. Even if you don't, put the money it towards something else, or donate it to your church. I trust you to put it to good use.
For now, take care, and I hope to see you around again someday.

Yes you are. You're bad. To the bone.
Not for the critters. I totally understand and support you on that. It looks like you have a beautiful family and future and you need to make sure they are taken care of and you need to make sure you have the time and space for what they need.
But don't turn your friends here loose. That ain't right. You don't have to be here all the time but stop by when you can and say hi. You know you are always welcome here.

Re: Gone...
You did the right thing. I can personally relate to needing to make more time for the family. We have (3) kids (6, 9 & 11) and it seems the herps come first. The kids are missing out on stuff because we have to work our lives around caring for the reptiles. We can't even go on vacation for more than a day! Then again, the reptiles are a common interest me and my wife have. We don't have much else, so the reptiles are a good thing for our relationship. Maybe in the future your wife will have the same passion for reptiles as you do.
I can't imagine what you went through with the electrical malfunction. We use the cheap ZooMed thermostats (maybe 8 of them) and could never afford the good ones. I can't imagine what it would be like to come home and find some of our herps fried.

Re: Gone...
You're doing what's right by your animals and your family and that makes you a more selfless person than some other people I know. Priorities are important and it seems to me that you've made the right choice. I've only just joined the forum so I never really got to know you but I'm sure I'll learn from you as I peruse old posts for helpful information. Good luck in life!
