I've got a problem.
So since I've been about 19 years old I've gone through periods of excessive drinking.
I thought it was normal. You know, rowdy young man, sneaking into bars, stealing beers, and getting into the occasional tussle. Stupid, but a good time none the less.
Well, when I turned 21 one of these periods lasted six months. Straight. I was drunk when I went to bed, when I woke up, and I drank at work.
I started having some lower chest/abdominal pain, so I went to the doctor. Turns out that the amount of liquor I was drinking a day had 'aged' my liver significantly. Not beyond the point of recovery, but damage had been done none the less. My doctor then went on to introduce me to an addiction specialist, who told me that I, Davie, am an alcoholic. He asked me to say it.
I refused.
I made jokes. I lashed out. He was patient, and he waited. He asked me to go home and live my life, but to give some serious thought to the subject.
Well, later that night, still bothered, I decided to have a drink. Or two. Or nine. Either way, when I was stumbling past the mirror on my way to bed, I caught my reflection. I stared myself down, and mumbled those disgusting words the doctor and his pal had wanted me to say all along.
Something clicked.
I got into AA. I worked the program. I worked it good. I was sober for a long time. And here I am, binging again.
Long story short?
I'm back in AA, and I may be entering treatment as a couple of other vices have popped up on the weekends as well.
I work in the medical field, so I know what I'm doing to myself. Spare me the lecture, please.
I also know that I'm far from popular here, but I figured I'd extend the common courtesy of saying goodbye none the less. I should be on here and there, but that doesn't really matter I suppose.
Anyway, yeah.
My [real] name is Davie, and I'm an alcoholic.
Good night and good luck.

Re: I've got a problem.
Best of luck, Davie. I don't really know you but I have been around people with your problem before. Good for you for deciding to do something about it. Many people just let themselves go past the point of no return and never look back. I hope you continue on the good path and heal yourself. Goodbye and God bless!

Re: I've got a problem.
I'm a little confused. Why do you have to leave the site? Did I miss something?
.
I wish you nothing but the best of luck Davie. And I give you all my best.
.
Popularity doesn't mean squat to me on reptile forums. Regardless if you are new to the place or a veteran, you'll be missed and I hope we see you around again.

Nothing to it, just to do it.
Best wishes.

Hi Davie, my name is John and I'm an alcoholic and an addict.
You already know it only works if you work it, one day at a time.
Clean and sober for 8034 days on May 1, if I make it.

B I think he is referring to RTB as a "vice" that he is now quitting.
