Greetings snake lovers

So I am pretty sure I am going to get another glass tank for the boy. Temperatures have never been a problem for my snakes, but I'm wondering if a regular heating pad can sit on a counter under a 75 gallon tank. Seems you would have to put a towel or something under the other side to get it to rest evenly. Then what kind of lamps would you use? The blue (or black--not sure which) lights they recommend at the store are on all night. Does this bother the snakes? I currently have a 150 watt ceramic lamp with a 75-watt blue lamp. I'm not sure if I should be turning the blue on off at night. I'm told they can't see it, but those guys at the reptile store have not given very reliable advice. (Sorry to go off on a tangent here). You guys have all been so helpful so far.
