Well, for those of you rtb lifers that remember me, I'm back temporarily. I wanted to give all of those that were curious an update on my life and how things are going. The biggest change of all is that fact that I leave October 4th for Army Basic Training. Yes, I joined the military. Why? To benefit myself and my loved ones. I wasn't going anywhere in life working around here so I finally broke down and enlisted. I'm going to be a wheeled vehicle mechanic, a skill I can use as a civilian. I also plan on attending school while in to gather more skills I can use as a civvie. The other big change is me having a girlfriend. after almost a year of beingsingle I found someone worth my time! Depending on how my stationing goes in the military I'm considering marrying her. She told me last night she'd accept if I proposed to her. She will be 23 soon and she has a beautiful 15month old daughter. If we get hitched we start with a full family between our kids On that note, Killian is 13 months now and is all that I could ever hope for and more. Me and Stephanie went to court and got a temp. parenting plan established. I pay monthly child support and so far I get to see him 3 times a week for 3 hours each with parental supervision. Me and Stephanie are on good terms though. We spent 4 hours together with Killian yesterday which is a blast for me since I feel, even though we aren't together, that the time all 3 of us spend together makes me feel like a complete happy family. Anyhow, for those of you that want to catch up you can catch me on AIM, YIM, and MSN as well as e-mail. My AIM is: FoxMustangGT306 YIM: my_1988_mustanggt306 and my e-mail for MSN and e-mail is dawnofevil@hotmail.com Feel free to try to catch me at one of those if you want to talk further with me. I've missed all those that I got to know on here and I felt I should let you guys know how things are over here. Talk to you all soon!
-Dustin

Good luck to you Dustin, I'm glad things are going well for you! Where are you doing your basic? I had the exact same job in the Army (63 Bravo, right?). I did my basic at Fort Knox, KY.

My job is 63 Whiskey. My BT will be at Fort Jackson in South Carolina and my AIT will be at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. 10 weeks of BT and 11 weeks of AIT. I'm hoping I get stationed at Fort Lewis over here in Washington so that I am still close to my family and so that I can still see my son somewhat regularly. As for being a mechanic, its something I can do as a civilian since it is always in demand and its something that I don't mind doing at all. I like being greasy. Plus as a wheeled vehicle repairman I get to work on everything, from Jeeps to HumVees so I get both gas and diesel experience. Plus I plan on attending on base classes for a few other things, especially anything IT field related. I plan on doing a lot of stuff to my Mustang by the time I'm out and I can save hundreds of bucks if I can do the work myself, plus it becomes my own car with my own blood sweat and tears! I'll be sure to keep you all posted... but in case I start to slack or get to busy just get a hold of me any other way I posted... I'm not afraid of talking on the phone either if thats something some of you might like to do. Talk to you soon!

TC, first of all, great choices. I went Air Force myself (many years ago). I didn't stay long (6 years), but I don't regret any minute of it. You are making very mature decisions and I am sure all will be well. Re: your girls, think that if you are married you can provide medical benefits for them and everything else the Army gives you, as dependents. Just a thought.
And been in the Army doesn't mean you can't have a comp at work and hook up with RTB every now and then! When you settle down, lets us know, maybe I have a few spare parts to build you a system.
Good luck.

Hey, bro! Glad to hear things are going well for ya. I was wondering where you had run off to. When you do find out when you come down to SC, drop me a line, and we'll definitely have to hang out, seeing as how I'm in the next state now. Long story... Hey Dustin!
I know that I am late in posting here but I think that the military is a great way to kick start your life! I actually wanted to ba a career millitary man, but a medical problem keeps me from it. Anyway, keep your head up man. You can do anything that you set your mind to. Listen to Slaponte on the girl tip. It may save you a lot of heartache before it's all over.
When I started reading this I really hoped that you were going to Ft. Knox b/c it is about 50 miles from where I live. I thought I would come cause trouble for ya during basic and we could hook up for dinner after you were done...but no such luck. Maybe at a later date.
Remember that no matter what they do to you in BT it may seem rough, but it will only make you stronger. Don't let them get you down or break you. The longest it can last is 10 wks, and in the big scheme of things, that really isn't very long!
Once again, Good luck!
Ted

DUSTIN, SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!! DIDN'T YOU JUST GO THROUGH A DIVORCE?? BUDDY, I'M IN THE MILITARY AND TRYING TO START A MARRIAGE IN THE MILITARY ISN'T EASY!!!! IT'S CORRUPT!.....Listen, in the military, that wedding band doesn't mean squat to most guys! She better be THE ONE because it's very easy for her to get a taste of that travel life and meet somebody else. I'm not saying do it but wait until you're in before jumping into that. Listen, I know what having that comfort of a woman is like. That's why I got married. It's not always about being married. Geez dude, I'm just trying to look out for you. What are you two going to do when you get deployed for 6 months somewhere? Have you talked about that? Especially since you just got a divorce, you'll be over in Iraq or something wondering what she's doing back in the states. I've been there. Except my wife was cheating on me while I was away. It's F'ed up trust me and it hurts. I'm not saying you don't know what it's like to be married and feel that, but I am saying you don't know what it's like to be married in the military, just like I don't know what it's like to be married as a civvie. Someday, when I can trust woman kind again a | |
