new to the site!!
Hi everybody!
I am new to the site, I just got a baby rtb about a week ago. I have just managed to feed her a F/T pinkie and hopper mouse. She is living in a 20+ gallon tall tank, not long.
My main question is, how long will it be before she grows out of the tank? I plan on building her a custom enclosure as soon as she is ready for it; I would like to build one ASAP, but I don't want to put her in such a large enclosure while she is still only about 22" long.
My other question is, should I try to start her eating rat pups instead of mouse hoppers?
I will post some pictures of her when I get some (tonight hopefully)
thanks

Hi, and welcome. Feed your little one four weeks or so on the size you are on and then work up. You just want to make sure she is ok with the size you are on. She will be 3 feet at the end of the year, 5 feet the next year, full size (6-9 feet) by the end of year 4.. give or take. You have a few months to a year depending on her growth rate. She will not just Clifford the Big Red dog on you. You will see when she is getting too big for her cage when she can stretch all the way to the end of her cage and halfway back, she needs a new home. Good luck with it all Barry.

Yes. a 22" baby boa is fairly good size..plenty enough to have been started out on pink rats for the first meal. Rats are way more nutritious than mice too so she will grow up big and strong on rat at a much healthier rate. Don't over do it though. One rat a week is plenty for the first year or so. Eventually she will need to back off to every other week and she may even drop off to a once every 3 week or so feeding when she gets older and full grown...that varies with individuals though. Just step up the size along with her growth rate. A 20 tall is not the best choice for a baby boa enclosure. If you are heating it with a heat lamp, the height causes the heat to cone out too much and evenly heats the whole cage preventing a good gradient. Less height - more floor space is what you need. Good luck and welcome to rtb

Welcome aboard Barry!
A good idea regarding enclosure: Choose the size that it will end up in when reaching adult size. Simply use a divider to size down the enclosure while it's a baby.
If you decide to build custom enclosures according to her present size, you'll end up like me: With lots of empty enclosures. Actually that isn't all that bad either. It just means you have spare enclosures for a few more snakes <grins>!

Welcome to RTB. I hope you plan on sharing pictures of your baby and not keeping her all to yourself.
As far as feeding, great job on starting her off on f/t. You did your reading!!! Keep her at the size she is at now or start her on f/t pinky/fuzzy size. After a few weeks she'll probably be ready for regular fuzzies and working up to pups. I started my baby girl on small fuzzies for only 3 weeks and she got her first small pup last week. She was 23.6 inches and now in shed. Woo-hoo.
I'll share post-shed pics only if you share pics of yours.

This is bianca attempting to break her thermometer. Julius (my ball python) managed to break her thermometer 3 times within hours of putting it in her tank. i had to attach it with industrial adhesive to keep her off.
I took that step straight away with Bianca, so far the thermometer still stands!

This is Julius I recently managed to get her on to F/T. She put up a real stink about it, she was the only one of her litter that was not eating F/T when I got her. After about 3 - 4 weeks she was doing fine though.

Looks like you've got everything together! I concur with the rat-pup suggestion. Bianca should not have a problem with it. Welcome to rtb.net!
