Georgia residents
I will have a 2 hour window in Georgia between flights from NJ to Grand Cayman. This is both on the way down --this SAT the 31st---and on the way back up on the 13th.
Anyone who lives close to the airport who wants to have a couple of drinks I'm buying....catch is you have to come to the airport
2 hour window in the AM on Saturday and the return light on the 13th in the afternoon.
Please Email me privately:
magickalchilde8@yahoo.com
if you want to get together and for the exact times of the flights. I know this is short notice and that the airport is probably far from most people's homes (I know it is far from mine)--but it's a shot in the dark--either way I will be there

Nicole.... if you have never been through the Atlanta airport two hours is not very much time at all! Especially if it's on the way back.... coming off the plane, getting your baggage, going through customs, then re-checking you baggage can wipe out time very quickly.
We had a three hour layover on our way back from Mexico a couple of weeks ago... by the time we were done with all the customs crap we had enough time to grab a quick bite and not much more than that
They were some cool little restaurants there though.... we stopped at one, JR Michaels Steak I think, they had those awesome fries piled with cheese and bacon and a decent steak & cheese sandwich too :P

good point....maybe the way down would be better---the thing is---the airlines usually take my bags from one plane to the next with transfers. Not sure how it works with flights from what's considered another country --would they check my bags in newark or georgia?? I would think newark since I won't physically have the bags? No?

Our bags were checked clear through to Cancun on the way there, but on the way back we had to run through customs in GA. Then re-check our bags there after passing customs so they could get on the plane to head up to Norfolk. I think that you need to go through customs at your point of entry to the US which means you would have to check your bags in GA on the way back.
Here are some sites with some infor on the Caymans, I am sure you have hit them already though...

When traveling to other countries, airlines will check your bags all the way through, of couse with different securities now, they have to go through EVERYTHING in your luggage first which eats up time.. (hoorah for TSA)
and they will do the same thing on the way back but of course the whole customs things coming back into the country is a pain in the rear. But when you go they'll do everything in Newark. Of course with a 2 hour delay if you leave the concourse into the main terminal I will warn ya that you'd have to thru the painsteak of the security check n stuff...lol
I hated that crap. my dad works for continental airlines and i was the lucky person who got the through search...shoes off and all... =/ it really sucked and ate up time..man i felt like a freaking criminal with ppl staring at me...lmfao

Not trying to sound blonde, but how do they check your bags in Georgia if they are being transported from one plane to the other by the airlines? Or are you just talking about carry ons?

The process that we had was this.....
Heading out (going out of the US to Mexico):
Checked baggage at the Delta counter in Norfolk, Lay over in Atlanta, Flew into Cancun, Picked up luggage, Went through customs, Free to go.
Coming back (coming back into the US):
Check bags at Delta counter in Cancun, Flew into Atlanta, pickup bags, go through customs, recheck baggage, fly into Norfolk and go home.
The bags referred to are the normal suitcases, not carry ons.
I am pretty sure that you wont have to do anything with your checked baggage on the way there. You will probably have to pickup your suitcases and take them through customs in Atlanta.
