Chameleon Condo
Has anyone tried the Chameleon Condo? The advertisement is in the left column on the homepage of this site.
Does it work as advertised?
I'm wondering:
Is the drip system enough to maintain adequate humidity
Does it make them more friendly as advertised
They say poop is filtered through the potting soil but I'm guessing most of the chameleon's time will be spent on a perch outside of the plant area thus pooping on the floor.
If anyone has used this product or at least have more experience with chameleons and would like to speculate - please comment.
Thanks

I tried a free roaming setup with my chameleon for a while. No matter what I did she managed to find a way off of it. I wouldn't trust it. And to me, it doesn't look like they really get that much territory, since it's only what, 12-18 inches wide? Heck, my female has a cage that's 4 feet wide, 2 deep, and 6 tall, and uses every bit of it.

Hey reptilemama,
Thanks for responding. I also have a question about handling. A lot of people say you cant handle them, that they are for display only. Yet some (not as many, but enough) say they handle theirs all the time with no problem.
I guess nobody can answer this question beyond speculation, but is it reeeaaaally true that it depends on the chameleon's immuteable personality?
Or could it be a simple issue of regular vs nonregular handling?

Its kinda funny.... I look at this place as the authority on all things reptile. Sort of a one stop shop for beginners :P
But there is very little info on chameleons. Only two pages in the whole forum.
Note: this isnt a complaint, just a curiosity. I realize the name of this site is redtailed boa. Just surprised that there isnt much interest in chameleons.

personally i think that the chameleon condo is a pretty lame product. bear in mind i have never actually seen one in person, but from what i have seen in ads, it looks like something a dog food company or something came up with to try to get a piece of the reptile market. heck, maybe i am wrong about this, and maybe its the greatest thing for chameleons since CITES. i recommend building your own enclosure from 1" X 1" lumber and some sort of poly-caging material with small holes around 3/4". add a hinged door on one side and voila! you can put plants all over the floor of the cage, some grape vines and bushes of one sort or another, you and your cham will be rockin' dude !!!

i had an open wetbar once that i converted to a vieled cham home.i hung a heatlamp from above and installed 4 uv lamps over the grapewood and vines.it had a small sink already installed so i just put branches over it and a fishtank pump 2 create bubbles.i would unstop the sink scrub it,and refill every 2 days.now,i would come home from work and the cham would be on the floor looking out of the sliding glass windows,so i would just put him back in his home.this happened everyday 4 a week, sometimes while i was home, but i was persistant, finally he gave up,and he wouldnt even try to come out.he lived in there for 3 1/2 years with no problems.they can be trained to stay where u want them.i did the same thing with a panther cham.he used to live on my entertainment system.
