My Veiled is showing all the signs and symptoms of being gravid. I.E., reduced appetite, doing a lot of walking around on the bottom of her tank, and very large mid section.
Here is the problem I am having. I am not sure if its possible that she is gravid though. Her and my male have only been together once and for about 5-10 mins, fully supervised.
It looked like the male was trying to do his business, but his Hemi penis never came out (that I saw) and it looked like they never copulated. If you palpate her mid section you can definetly feel something inside, and it does feel like it might be eggs.
The only other option that I can think is that she has a bowel impaction. There has been relatively little poo in her tank lately, but then again she is eating less.....
Does anyone have any ideas???? I am still going to go buy the things that I am going to need for her to lay her eggs, just in case.
Thanks
Micah

Well my question was answered about 30 mins after I wrote the origional thread.
She decided it was time to deposit her eggs, all over the bottom of the tank.
Could it be possible that they were unfertalized eggs?????

Female chameleons can and do lay infertile eggs even if they've never seen a male. Make sure she has a good, deep bucket of sand or moist soil to lay in. My panther cham likes to lay hers in a potted plant that has lots of extra room around the roots. If she starts to act lethargic, doesn't eat for more than a couple days, or seems to be having trouble laying, get her in to a vet immediately. Eggbound chams go downhill very fast and if not treated promptly, often die. Also, you mentioned she lives in a "tank". Do you mean a glass aquarium? If so, chameleons do very poorly in glass tanks, and often suffer infections from the lack of ventilation. Screen cages work much better. I would not move her while she is gravod, but as soon as you can do it after she has layed.

Looks like we posted at the same time. So just figure all that info was for next time, as she will do this again, probably for the rest of her life.

I have my female veiled in a 65gallon reptraium. I am fully aware that chams tend to not like glass aquariums.
Thanks for letting me know that they do lay infertal eggs. I was kinnda thinking that thats what happend, but I just figured its best to make sure.
Guess I could have put the male and female together eariler.......
when do you think it will be safe to put the 2 together??
Thanks!!
Micah

Glad to hear about the reptarium. Sorry if I came off too preachy, but I hear so many horror stories about chams in aquariums, I tend to jump to conclusions. I answer questions at www.practical-pet-care.com, and we get questions from newbies with chams all the time, and 90% of them have no idea what they're doing. Honestly I'm not sure when you should try introducing them again, as I've never bred mine. Guess you could call her an old maid. Definitely give her at least a week or two to regain her strength. This care sheet here had some info on breeding that may be helpful.
