Re: W.C. Florida Veileds
It took myself and a few friends a few times out to get the hang of it. The first few times out we didn't catch any. Once you know what to look for it's not very difficult.

Re: W.C. Florida Veileds
Time to clean those cages.
A friend of mine bred these guys and I remember him saying that the male shouldn't stay with the female after breeding. Said the male would stress the girls out too much.
Where in FL did you find them? They should be collected til there isn't any left. Being non-native and everything.
They are gorgeous!

Re: W.C. Florida Veileds
Gotta snap the pics before they change color! I cleaned the cage afterwords. I can't giveout the exact location but they are other there. I only snag a few for myself. There are professionals out there catching and wholesaleing them.

Re: W.C. Florida Veileds
Yeah I just moved from FL and have heard there are atleast 2 populations but I have never found any.
One location near DeSoto county they were purposly relased along with anumber of others to "make populations to harvest" Luckily as far as I know that population did not take hold and only a few bibrons have been found in the last few years.
It is practices like this that cause such strife in the publics eye and threatens our industry.
As much as it pains me to be saying this these populations should be removed! If you can catch every one you see and rmemove them from an ecosystem they do not beong in.
They are allready tyring to make a number of animals illegal to own due to 1) accidental introduction to the ecosystem 2) intentional release into the ecosystem and 3) irresponsible pet owners.
Protecting these locations is only protecting others proffits at the expense of our ecosystem and freedom to own these animals. It would not suprise me to see them making Veilds and other chameleons illeagle to own due to these established populations. We do not need to give the finatics more amunition to use against us and our love of herps!
This is just my opinion but only we can be responsible for how the public sees us and our beloved animals,

Re: W.C. Florida Veileds
Zombie thread rises!!!
But seriously from what I've heard the two populations have since become extinct due to the freeze in south Florida last winter. There was one down in Ft. Meyers right off 75. I went down there shortly after when the weather warmed up and spent a good 5 hours herping with 5 other friends and came up empty handed except for some Hemidactylus and Anolis sagrei (those little buggers will never die!!).

Re: W.C. Florida Veileds
The Veiled populations didn't "crash" - People are still collecting them in decent numbers - They go underground, and won't come up untill they know the weathers decent.......No sense in trying to collect any right after the cold, it'll take them 4 or 6 weeks to come back up if the weather holds.......
They are never going to go away - They will never be extirpated - Florida has been forever altered and native species have been bulldozed over in the name of development......Thank the State for that.....Meanwhile, I'll still collect Veilds when I can, as they provide extra income, along with the other Invasives that will never go away.......I was just told of another un-touched population a few weeks ago out of the blue.......
