This forum has always been a great help to me. I know that I come and go, but I jope someone can offer some advice now. I have recently taken under my care two veiled Chameleons, both hatchlings. One of them recently began to shed, he doesn't seem to taking it so well. He appears to have lost weight and the skin is hanging off him every where. He won't open his eyes and is drinking a lot of water, I also say him vomit this morning. *He was doing great for the past few weeks. Now he looks very bad. His humidty and dripping water is treated and safe, his temp is OK and his food has been supplemented. Whats wrong?

PLEASE any suggestions.

ok............let's see.....
Dirst, what do mean by "treated"? The shed sounds like too low humidity, but i have not seen him. If they eyes are sealed shut, it may be Vit A deficiency. Best bet is a vet. Chams are very fragile as it is. Hard to say off the top of my head.

Thanks, The terrarium is fitted with dripping water and the water, I treat with Calcumixer stuff, it removes the chlorides and such, also has calcium with it. The thing is: I have another veiled same age (little bit bigger) in an identical set up, and he seems to be ok

LIke BW said, the best thing would be to get him to a vet right away. Chameleons are slow to show signs of illness, and by the time you see symptoms, they may already be seriously ill. He may have been ill before you got him, and the stress of moving to a new home made it worse. if you need to find a good vet, try www.herpvetconnection.com or www.arav.org.

Thanks guys, Unfortunately my Cam died last night. My second male however, is doing great. He is growing amazingly fast. The last few days he was digging in his substrait. Any idea what that is about? Thanks again, as always RTB rules!

are you sure hes male? My female did a lot of digging when she was getting ready to lay eggs. I dont know of any other reason for a cham to dig. Also, m not an "expert" but i do know that substrate isnt a great idea for them as they tend to ingest it with their food, which can cause impaction and death. Did your other cham have substrate as well? Good luck, and i hope you figure it out. Rusty
